pilates?

NKF · 18/10/2007 17:00

I hear Pilates works wonders.

constancereader · 18/10/2007 18:13

Hold it in all the time, especially when exercising. It strengthens the core muscles and looks better at the same time. It is really hard to remember, but it has worked wonders for me. I had that awful post c-section droop thing.

Fireflyfairy2 · 18/10/2007 18:15

Haaaaaaaaaaaaahahhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... you think it will ever be flat again?

Works wonders

mrsmerton · 18/10/2007 18:17

Try to eat less bread and sugar, it bloats you up round the middle.

I will be very interested in any other tips, I have a HUGE muffin top problem, never had it before. Hate it!

nooka · 18/10/2007 18:41

dh tells me that if I drank more water I'd lose my pot belly. But I've had it all my adult life, even when pretty skinny/fit. After my second c-section I had a set of really simple exercises that mostly involved tensing up my tummy in different ways, and twisting slightly. It did wonders, dropping me a dress size in a month or so. Recently we are trying a new exercise that involves holding a semi sit up position, which is really hard, but not very active.

jsut reading this thread has made me sit up straight and pull my tummy in!

i have the stomach of a supermodel of course

captainmummy · 19/10/2007 10:31

anyway womens stomachs are not supposed to be flat, the muscles are naturally rounded, unlike blokes. Any woman with a 6pack is a body builder. curves are good!

snowleopard · 19/10/2007 10:40

I have a non-flat post-CS tum and I find the thing that makes the most difference is when I remember to drink plenty of water. (Sit-ups etc have never made much difference for me and anyway I don't have time now.) Though I agree that especially post-baby, it's a pipe dream to expect to get it totally flat and you're better learning to love it. I am OK with mine now and I'm prety certain DP actively likes it. (He seemed genuinely distressed watching that louis theroux plastic surgery programme when women had lipo on their tummies - he said they had ruined them!)

bethoo · 19/10/2007 11:17

lots of water, no fizzy drinks, low carbs and high protein, plenty of exercise and lots of sit ups!

bethoo · 19/10/2007 11:19

Pilates will help your posture. I used to have a 6-pack due to martial arts, yoga, dance, aerobics etc. It wasn't intentional, just the result of enjoying the gym. Bloody hard work too.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 19/10/2007 15:50

Mmm....my DH told me I look like I've just had DS....who is, may I add...nearly 17months...

nooka · 19/10/2007 19:28

My dh is a bodybuilder and he positively discouraged me from sit ups and crunches. Said they were not very effective at all. Much better to do stabilising and postural work (which is why pilates and martial arts are good). Diet also a major factor - cut down salt and up the water.

buktus · 19/10/2007 19:38

i went straight for the tummy tuck

lovey · 20/10/2007 10:03

I do very small amounts (50 sit ups a week day, 100 on the weekend) and have a very hard stomach...but only after 2/3 years of doing this and careful eating
