I sliced my hand on Monday when the drill I was using slipped. It’s been sore but the redness has gone. Woke up this morning to find this funky stuff all round it. Don’t think it’s pus? What is it? I don’t
think it’s infected but it is taking a while to heal (obvs because of where it is). Thanks!
Sorry about the photo btw. Envy

Slough maybe.

Looks like it's healing anyway

DonLewis · 20/11/2020 07:48

Just looks like a layer of skin that got damaged and is now healing. Is it itchy?

Keep it clean, keep an eye on it.

MrsMigginsPie · 20/11/2020 07:49

It looks like it’s been weeping overnight and has dried? I think I’d be tempted to get some steri strips to hold the cut together and then cover with a plaster to give it a chance to knit together

KaptainKaveman · 20/11/2020 07:50

It doesn't look red so there isn't any sign of infection which is good news.
I think the skin is just a bit crusty. If it doesn't smell bad then I'd not worry. Awkward, but try to keep it uncovered so the air can heal it. Keep it clean too.

I looked up sloughEnvy Ok thanks everyone, I wasn’t too worried as the redness has gone down. Just interested to know what all the gunk was. I’m going to rehydrate the wound (wash my hair) as suggested on the page about slough which should clean off any gunk and then leave it to dry some more during the day (I’m going to be at work so if it’s still oozing I’ll cover it with a plaster until I get home - can’t inflict that on my colleagues (shared keyboards/phones etc)!

If you have a bottle of TCP then the occasional few drops on the wound is always a good idea hurts like a bastard though

AlfieIsReallySensitive · 20/11/2020 08:08

I don’t have any TCP. Have germolene or savlon - would those do?

OP posts:
KaptainKaveman · 20/11/2020 08:24

I think so yes, but for future reference I'd get some TCP, it's v useful ( stinks like buggery though). Keep it in the bathroom cabinet.
