Bleeding, and I'm worried

Troubledowntmill · 17/10/2007 22:24

So, if I'm bleeding from my rectum, bright red, and quite a bit of it, I've got the runs almost constantly, stomach cramps, I'm knackered and dizzy all the time and I can't shift my ten thousand mouth ulcers, should I be worried?

OP posts:
MeMySonAndI · 17/10/2007 22:26

Worried? no, why should you?

Please take yourself to the doctor asap.

TotalChaos · 17/10/2007 22:26

Well it's certainly worth a trip to the GP, but it may be something relatively unscarey (infection that can be swiftly sorted with antibiotics, say).

Hope you feel better soon.

Elibean · 17/10/2007 22:27

TDM, bright red blood is nearly always piles or fissure, but you must have it checked out - no ifs or buts (no pun intended). The ulcers sound as though you're run down, and constant runs sounds horrid and exhausting - please see your GP asap?

AitchTwoOh · 17/10/2007 22:28

oh dear, poppet, of course you must go to a doctor. could be anything, but you know the rules, all bleeding from the bum must be investigated.

Troubledowntmill · 17/10/2007 22:29

Thanks. I just don't want to be making too much of a fuss, and I'm really embarrassed if truth be known. I'm also concerned the doc will just tell me I'm just run down because of having the kids, which has happened before, but I didn't mention the bleeding.

is feeling a stupid now

OP posts:
JackOLANTERNstini · 17/10/2007 22:31

If feeling stupid will make you go to the doctor tommorow then so be it!
Seriously - you will go..? get it checked out and put your mind at rest.

AitchTwoOh · 17/10/2007 22:32

sounds like an arsehole of a doc, tbh. no pun intended.

Troubledowntmill · 17/10/2007 22:33

Yeah, I'll try and make an appointment in the morning. Really, thanks, it's good to, erm, get a kick up the bum. You know how it is, too busy with everyone else to stop and think it through.

OP posts:
Elibean · 17/10/2007 22:35

If you're so run down from having kids or anything that you have runs, piles, ulcers and stomach cramps you need to be listened to and helped. Totally agree, that GP was what Aitch says

Do go tomorrow, get yourself some peace of mind, you deserve it.

AitchTwoOh · 17/10/2007 22:43

and see if you can change your doc, if it's easy to do.

rosalina · 17/10/2007 22:51

The only thing to do is seeing a doctor. You should not be playing with fire...

ledodgy · 17/10/2007 23:00

If your not happy with the GP you saw last time go to a different GP. Your symptoms could be one of many things ranging from anaemia to Chrons disease, most easily treatable so you need to get checked out to get the appropriate treatment.

AitchTwoOh · 17/10/2007 23:00

i think it's more a ring of fire she's got, rosa.

AitchTwoOh · 17/10/2007 23:01

see, i've just read my last two posts and now you're not going to think i'm taking this seriously. i am. you should change your doc and get treated, something's not right.

vole3 · 18/10/2007 08:48

Have you been taking any medication, such as ibuprofen or other NSAID's? They can cause ulceration of the gut, hence mouth ulcers and PR bleeding. If so, stop taking them now!

If you have lost a lot of blood, that would explain the tiredness (anaemia) and dizziness (low blood pressure because of loss of volume).

Elibean · 18/10/2007 16:26

How'd it go, Trouble? Did you get seen, were they helpful?

TroubleDowntMill · 19/10/2007 11:19

I've got an appointment this afternoon, with a woman doctor who I saw for one of the girls, and she seems nice. I'll let you know how it goes.

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 19/10/2007 12:11

hope all go's well

AitchTwoOh · 19/10/2007 14:11

good luck!

JackOLANTERNstini · 19/10/2007 20:32

Been watching this to see how you are - how did it go Trouble?

TroubleDowntMill · 19/10/2007 21:52

It sort of went OK, apart from the whole dropping me pants thing. It's not an obvious tumour, which I confess was probably my main fear. I'm having some bloods done and we'll go from there. She does think I'm severely anaemic, but she said it was a symptom to be investigated, rather than a diagnosis. So I'll update when there's more to say. Still a bit , though.

OP posts:
Elibean · 19/10/2007 22:19

I'm glad you went, Trouble, well done for going, dropped pants and all. I know I'd be worrying too, until things were more conclusive, but it does sound like the best possible news so far - suppose they can't really put your mind at rest till they get test results and a clearer picture. Did she say how long it would take, and when to come back to see her?

AitchTwoOh · 20/10/2007 02:16

well that's as good news as you could have got, trouble, which is something. well done.

JackOLANTERNstini · 20/10/2007 10:31

Glad you went - very brave and the prognosis is a lot better than you thought!

vole3 · 20/10/2007 17:04

If they refer you for a colonoscopy and prescribe Picolax as a prep medication you will also need a few things

  1. Elasticated skirt / trousers and old pants
  2. Good reading material / iPod
  3. Andrex moist
  4. Chapstick / vaseline
  5. Large bottle of water
  6. Absolutely nothing planned for the whole day
