Please tell me what you did. My bloods today were 43 (apparently anything over 42 is pre diabetic).

I did, on a short term Very Low Cal Diet (VLCD). The key is to lose 10% of body weight, acc to the Newcastle Diet research.
I heartily recommend not then creeping the weight back on and making yourself diabetic again

Op come and join diabetes and the low carb life on fb. I'm type one and my hba1c is 37 (5.5%). It's a gentle group with loads of support and no judging if(when) you slip up.

I lost about a stone or so and it was enough to bring the figures dow. I kind of gave up with weight loss during lockdown1 but am starting again.

I had bloods recently (being investigated for gallstones) and they were fine and it wasn't commented on.

DH was diagnosed type II, controlled by metformin which has harmless but unpleasant side effects. We started following the low carb boot camp approach here on MN (hat tip @BIWI and @stuntnun) to absolutely brilliant success

I don't remember how long it took, as doctor was very cautious and kept him on a lower done of metformin for nine months after his blood sugars were testing in the normal range. HBa1c consistently showed that he was no longer diabetic. Doctor expressed surprise and insists on annual tests and checkups but accepts that DH's blood sugar levels are no longer in the type Ii diabetic, or even pre-diabetic, range

As for "think I need weetabix in the morning for my stools " Bootcamp introduced us to by the spinach and celeriac, so that's all sorted.

DH keep strictly to low carb for a further year but has now relaxed a bit. He says he will go back to being strict if his bloods rise. So far, it's all good.

Couldn't be more grateful to them.

My dad (in his 70s) reversed pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnoea by going low carb. He also lost a load of weight. He was only just overweight to start with but is the slimmest I've ever known him and looks great. He doesn't even do extreme low carb - he still has his bowl of homemade muesli every morning, but has given up bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and sweet stuff.

@Pansypath Generally I do just eat once a day but sometimes I will have a light snack in the evening, like a small bag of twiglets if I feel the need to chomp on something.

For my main meal I generally have a baked potato (just baked plain in the oven, no oil or anything as that’s how I like them), that is my staple ingredient as for whatever reason that seems to be the key to keeping me fuller for longer. Then I’ll have protein, fat and fibre with it, depending on what I fancy. I find eating once a day easy because I’ve always been the type of person who would rather eat one big meal than 3 little ones, my DH likes to eat little and often so there is no way he’d be able to do what I do.

You need to find something that works for you that you can sustain without being hungry etc.
