Phenegen? For insomnia

So, I'm not sleeping, menopause, plus anxiety and now I've just started antidepressants which is making it worse

Someone suggested I try Phenegen as I already take an antihistamine and I could swop

Last time I tred to buy it the chemist (cant remember why but it was 10+yrd ago) the chemist wouldn't sell it to me

So is this a good idea?

How did you go, KatyMac?

KatyMac · 18/11/2020 11:35

not fabulously

So I went back to bed and slept until 11

I'm driving tomorrow morning so I wont be taking anything tonight

Part of controlling my CFS has always involved sleeping during the day but I don't know if right now night time sleep is more important?

My normal sleep pattern is 11-8 plus 1-2 hours during the day and I'm having a few hours between 1am & 5am plus 8-10 (or 11 today) plus a later nap - it's very disordered

Get a cheap pill cutter from the chemist and cut the Phenergan in half, so 5 mg. Take half pill early in the evening, eg after dinner. Lessens next day zombie effect. Don't take later than 9pm, for same reasons. Stop napping. Counterproductive to getting a sleep cycle back.

'Napping'

It's tricky, with chronic fatigue for over 25 years, napping is an integral part of my life; non-nap days are rare

With insomnia I am all short on spoons, and my naps recoup a few spoons

But I agree!

Yeah, I agree. You have to balance your own bodily needs, and protect your psyche, too. Not a napper myself (I wish I could!), but that's what they all say in the sleep books and on the course I did. It's an imperfect art, but I hope you find a way that works for you to improve your sleep.

Well I took it Thursday night (just half) & while I didn't have a full night's sleep (still waking every hour or so) I have continuted to sleep an hour or so every time I sit down

So I have had lots of sleep and I am feeling better

However, serial napping is not idea for day-to-day life & I may only take a tablet when I am absolutely desperate!

Nytol.
Over the counter. Works for my OH. Try it anyway.

KatyMac · 23/11/2020 20:19

Scared to try anything else!!

I am managing small things now (getting dressed, eating, etc) but I am still so tired - last night I slept about 8 hours which is good plus a 3 hr nap!

I swear by night nurse if I've had a run of sleepless nights. I only take one though and only if I can stay in the morning after.

Has anyone tried Circadin and is it any better than what you can buy over the counter in USA for example?

Whydidimarryhim · 21/03/2021 20:27

I have some here 25mg which I’ve been taking - I don’t know where I got them from but aren’t they an anti histamine.
I’ve taken Sominex and Valerian- I preferred the later.

Summerdayshaze · 21/03/2021 23:49

I have taken Zopiclone every night for almost two years. Never fails and no side effects. My GP is happy to prescribe as I have chronic nerve pain.

mumwon · 22/03/2021 00:05

I had severe (now mostly manageable - related to IBS issues) insomnia
What a sleep therapist told me about naps was this: limit to under one hour & try to do this either late morning or just after lunch - do NOT go to bed until you are really tired & don't go on the computer late at night! (yeah right Grin)
other sources say warm bath before bed with lavender if possible & warm milk (lacto free for me!) to drink ( not to bathe in!)
