Aged 51, sudden onset of left-sided lower abdo pain.
feels like you do post operation ~bloated, bruised and tender.
sore to touch and can't take full steps ~stairs in particular a real struggle.
feels in the position of ovary. any thoughts?

Are you feeling sick? Any problems with the bowels? Is it severe pain? If it's not getting better, and you're feeling absolutely dreadful, definitely consider A+E. Another option is call the GP and get an urgent gynaecology referral for an ultrasound scan. There is a good chance it could be an ovarian issue. Get well soon!

Thank you!
Gp later. No fever or other symptoms. Just severe palpable pain left lower abdo.

Ahh, okay, get well soon!

I was going to suggest Diverticulitis. I suffer from this. Try and identify foods that trigger it and cut them out. Drink LOADS of fluids and eat foods that are easy on your gut to keep things moving.

Hope it passes quickly for you.

Oh, I have a very similar pain and wondering about diverticulitis! Get well soon OP! What treatment was offered if you don't mind me asking?

emsworth · 18/11/2020 00:18

Co~amoxiclav ~antibiotic because it is infected.
Tbh it was so painful that Dr had to help me down the stairs after apptmt. I wasn't offered any diet advice but am not sure I would have retained it if they had!
It felt very much like an ovary pain but gp fairly sure it was infected diverticulii

The usual dietary advice is low fibre while the infection is present (to give your bowel a break - easy digestion), and high fibre in between flare-ups to avoid constipation. They used to say you should avoid nuts, seeds and popcorn, but this traditional advice isn’t borne out by the most recent scientific studies.

If oral antibiotics don’t help then do go back. I always had to be admitted for IV antibiotics with my episodes of diverticulitis.

You may well find you don’t have an appetite anyway. Do keep hydrated though. Soup is good.

Keep an eye on it. I had infected diverticulitis but was misdiagnosed as having IBS until my bowel ruptured. Can you push to see a specialist for a scan?

Good luck with it, it's the most painful thing ever, worse than child birth!
