What to do about nose piercing bump?

I had my nose pierced 4 weeks ago and for the last 2 weeks I've had a reddish bump right next to the piercing. Obviously I can't go back to the piercer and don't feel I need to go to my GP about it, as it doesn't seem infected. And I just feel stupid to go to a GP about something so minor and due to cosmetics when we are in a pandemic.

It leaks clear fluid and doesn't hurt. I've been washing it twice a day with salt water. And occasionally I have given it a salt water, hot compress.

I'm worried that its been there for a while now, without it getting smaller.

Do you think I need to see a GP? Will it go on its own? Do I need to do anything else?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have top quality jewellery in there- implant grade titanium is the one of choice and then leave it alone!

Most of these bumps are caused by irritation. Upgrade your jewellery if necessary but don't fiddle with it or be tempted to clean it other than a quick rinse with plain water. Most people make the salt solution too strong and that can cause irritation in itself. I suspect you'll see an improvement as soon as you stop!

Thanks. Tbh I'm not sure what the metal is thats in now. Do you think I should change it even though its not healed yet?

For the salt water I'm using 1/8 of a tea spoon to 250 ml water.

I'd try dropping the salt water completely and just rinse off once a day with plain water whilst you are in the shower. That might be enough to settle it. People often have more problems with over cleaning than they do with under cleaning. The body is really good at healing itself if it's just left to its own devices.

If not then you can order new jewellery. It's a bit soon but if you are having a reaction to the jewellery then you do need to change it and 4 weeks should be fine

I had one of those for 4 years. Yes that's right 4 years! I didn't want to bin the piercing off and I tried EVERYTHING suggested online. Sometimes it was smaller and sometimes bigger but never really gone. Then eventually I bought a really really high quality niobium stud and it was gone within a week. Never came back.

Sounds completely normal for a month old piercing to me. My nose piercing bump took over 8 months to go away. I remember posting on here in desperation asking for advice.

It will go eventually. In the meantime, as all good piercers would advise, LITHA (leave it the hell alone).

Ah OK. So the piercer said to clean it twice a day for 2 weeks and the once a day for 2 weeks, then stop altogether. But since I got the bump I've continued to clean it twice a day. So yeah I think I'll just wash with normal water in the shower.

Has anyone got any links to jewellery I should go for?

You don't need to change the jewellery, and it's recommended not to, until a piercing is healed, especially a cartilage one.

Unless it was pierced with inferior jewellery? Again, any reputable piercer won't pierce with rubbish quality though.

Is it a stud or a ring? Rings can take longer to heal as they move around more during the initial healing process.

Shower water will be sufficient for cleaning.

I had the same as pp, desperately searching the internet for a solution - my nose bump was getting bigger and bigger. I’m pretty sure I got one because I constantly fiddled with it and when I wasn’t fiddling with it, my toddler was, or I was catching it on towels, clothes. I kept reading to put a aspirin paste on it but that wasn’t working and at the time I had a Salicylic acid face serum, which is the active ingredient in aspirin. So I started dropping the serum onto it and within just over a week it was gone. I felt very clever Grin

Its a nose stud with a hook. I don't know what its made of though. It looks yellow gold.
