I think I’ve got my first stomach bug, aged 37!

Or at least I think I have... And it’s horrid!
Any advice gladly taken.

Symptoms are violent diarrhoea from the early hours of Saturday until lunch time the same day; from then on I’ve just felt awful; a travel sickness in my gut feeling, bloated, lethargic and, sorry, too much information but I’ve managed one more normal but soft poo!
That sounds like a stomach bug doesn’t it?
Gosh I hope it ends soon.

I’ve been drinking flat pop and had toast, I have no appetite.

Anything else I can do to speed it along and out of my system?

I have IBS so an upset tummy/diarrhoea isn’t completely unusual for me but this is definitely something else.

My DD (23 months) has had diarrhoea for 6 days now, which isn’t unusual for her - she is prone to it lasting 2-3 weeks, according to her consultant the fact it lasts so long is linked to her reflux but so far I’ve never caught it from her and I’m even more scrupulous about hygiene at the moment. So it’s frustrating. Not even sure how she got it, we’ve been no-where with other people for the week preceding it. She is fine in herself, only had one quiet day then back to her usual self expect for the awful nappies, so I thought I’d be be same when it started yesterday.

Thanks for reading, I live rurally, just me and DD, with no-one to really speak to about these things.

Maybe a bug? My bf has had same for 2 weeks

Callcat · 15/11/2020 17:31

Chamomile tea seems to be helping with the cramps a bit

@Callcat - thanks for that tip, I’ll add it to my home delivery list. Can’t face the drive down to Tesco.

I suppose I should be delighted to get to this age without getting a bug!

I’ve had loads and the only thing that helps me is sips of water and sleep. Oh and letting it out 🙈. I’ve had bugs before that came from both ends and makes you feel absolutely disgusting

Fluids, fluids fluids of any description.
Paracetamol for stomach pains.
Don’t use had gel , more proper hand washing with soap and water especially after nappy changes, going to the loo yourself.
Anti bac wipe door handles, taps, loo handles, surfaces. Do this regularly.
Eat things like melon, high fluid content foods, whatever you fancy.

For more evidence based information have a look at the NHS choices website. It’s NICE guidance information.
Everything you need to know there, plus red flags for your little one.
Then just wait it out, it will pass.

Thank you @Pickypolly, I wasn’t aware of the nhs choices site.
I have anti-bac wiped her toys every night this week! We’ve gone through a lot of soap this week too, that’s on the home delivery order as well.

I think with me it’s the unknown unnerving me! Especially as DD didn’t seem to feel rotten for very long and I do!
My mum told me earlier in the week when I told her DD was ill that neither me or my siblings got tummy bugs as children, and I believe her as we all had amazing attendance records!

This is not the kind of new experience I enjoy!
