Was told after a sigmoidoscopy today and doctor just mentioned to avoid beans legumes peas, that they can cause bleeding!!! Or a fissula?
Feeling scared snd anxious read a little bit online but scared me so if anyone has this please tell me how you cope with this?
I'm basically a vegan and eat a lot of nuts chickpeas peas etc but doctor said if they are mashed they fine?
Any personal info welcome, just a bit frightened

My mother had this horrendously... Good news is it now rarely gives her bother. The odd thing with pips flares her up but she's generally fine and eats whatever she wants. Don't worry xx

I've got loads of Divaticular, they don't impinge on the whole. I just keep my diet fairly healthy, drink lots of water. I don't eat nuts anymore as they tended to cause a flare up.
Divaticular are very common, nothing to be worried about. DH had a colonoscopy a few months ago and he's got a few.

@Mondaymanic @augustusglupe Thank you! Your replies have calmed me and made me feel it will be ok, it just sounded all a bit worrying!
My doctor frightened me about a fissula but hopefully that can be avoided.

Can you try to get an appoint with a dietician?I know there are foods to avoid but there are also things that should help (I think it’s seaweed, red lettuce, etc).

@ThatIsNotMyUsername Thanks it's something I will probably consider once Christmas is out the way!!

I know someone who had terrible pains and bloating with it, and they went to a dietician who gave them a relatively easy diet to follow - mostly lovely foods (she was Italian, so there was a lot of Mediterranean diet food) their focus was in what they could eat rather than what the couldn’t, so it wasn’t too hard to follow. Plus some supplements too. It really made a big difference! Good luck - I know it’s pretty painful.

@ThatIsNotMyUsername Thanks that sounds great very helpful, there's a private dietician at my doctors surgery so I will be paying her a visit then for sure!

I remember my doctor telling me that what I ate had no effect of a breast fed DS after he screamed blue bloody murder after I ate lentils. The midwife then told me that of course the breastmilk would be effected by what I ate. Doctors don’t always have see what’s obvious!
