Stomach bug and burping

Salamander91 · 12/11/2020 10:24

I have what I'm assuming is a stomach bug (diarrhea, nausea, fever..)

The problem is that I'm constantly burping and it's really uncomfortable. Any tips for stopping the burping? I have wind-eze and rennes but they're not doing anything Blush

You might also want to get hold of a copy of this book

Sorry, just reading the updates. I was on antibiotics about 4 weeks ago, so that might explain my issue.

I'll look into some yoghurts and supplements, thanks BIWI Smile

My pleasure!

(BTW I'm no medic, just happen to have had some experiences that have been put down to antiobiotics - candida (thrush) and also possibly IBS)

There's also a huge amount of research being done into our gut biome, and how good gut health can lead to much better overall health. Fecal transplants see here are being used to re-create good gut health.

My dad was about to have one of these, as he was suffering from C-Diff (after a very long hospital stay/illness), although sadly he died before that could be done. But the consultant at the hospital said they had 100% success record with this approach. Incidentally, as a prospective donor, I was refused - because I'd just recently been on a course of antibiotics. In other words, my own gut health was likely to have been compromised, such that the bacteria present wouldn't have been 'good enough' I presume.

Are they eggy burps? if so look into giardiasis and talk to your GP/pharmacist.

Northernsoullover · 14/11/2020 13:53

@BahHumbygge I was just about to post the same! X

Salamander91 · 14/11/2020 15:03

I did see that when I googled but they're not eggy.

I'm so glad! I don't think many of us realise just what antibiotics can do to our systems. While they're fantastic in many regards, they can also be so harmful. I believe that if you were in France, when prescribing antibiotics you also get a prescription for probiotics (although don't know if that's just an apocryphal tale!)

yarncakes · 22/11/2020 22:50

Check for H Pylori

Salamander91 · 23/11/2020 08:43

Thanks everyone. I stopped burping on Friday 😂 which is good because that was when I ran out of the lansoprazole.

Glad you're feeling better too @Nikhedonia

Well, I will certainly remember it now! I'm always thinking of my immune system and what bugs I will pick up after antibiotics. Didn't think of the impact to my digestive system.

Glad you are feeling better too @Salamander91.

Just thought I'd update. The burps came back with a vengeance a few days ago. GP is doing a stool test to check for h pylori and if that comes back negative he said he'll refer me for a scan to check for gallstones 😩
