Strep b?

I had bleeding three times during my last pregnancy and the third time I was asked to do an internal swab and was told the results would be back within 5 days. 2 days later (and 2 weeks ago today) I had a planned section; 4 days later the clinic rang and said strep b was found from my swab and there was a prescription for me. I explained that I'd had my baby 2 days earlier, so was told by the nurse/midwife that because it was a section baby hasn't come through the route where strep b was, so I didn't need the antibiotics but to pop a water sample in for my GP in 2 weeks to check for infection.

Took a sample to my GP today and the nurse tested it and said there were signs of a water infection and she was going to send it to the lab just to double check and if it comes back positive for infection I'll get a phone call regarding antibiotics.

I did suspect an infection due to darkness of urine, smell (sorry, TMI!) and a 'tingling' pain when I finish on the toilet. I'm just a very anxious person and worried about this strep b. I've been online which I really shouldn't have and read that some people have it without knowing and that it's only a problem really in pregnancy and childbirth, but I'm just a worrier Sad

Has anyone had an experience with strep b? Do i need to ask to do another swab after antibiotics to see if it's gone? (The strep I mean)

If it’s showed up in your urine then you should have a repeat urine test once you’ve completed your antibiotics to check that the infection has cleared. You don’t need to check separately for GBS as its presence doesn’t do any harm - a significant proportion (I think a third?) of the population carry it at any one time. It’s only a problem in pregnancy because it can infect the baby if they catch it during birth (which is in itself rare). Since you’ve had your baby via c section that’s no longer a risk for you.

Have a look at the GBS support website for more info.
