you can it isn't normally a problem. the sickness may be something else.

I've been giving ds tap water since 6mo. Is fine I think. The mains water supply in the UK is safe.

booda · 16/10/2007 23:07

My H.V said only boiled, but thats a relief, it,s not detrimental.i,m not used to leaving her can you tell? thanks.

DS is almost 5 months and drinks bath water.
He has survived thus far.

Tap water is absolutely fine at 7 months provided that it has been properly treated. Water is safe in the UK although I would be careful if you go abroad. There is no need to boil water at 7 months. There is no need to sterilise bowls and spoon although if you are bottlefeeding then you need to sterilise bottles. This is because it can be hard to clean bottles well.

If you think about it a baby of that age tries and puts everything in its mouth. Once your child is crawling then worse things will go in her mouth than a bit of tap water.

Tap water is fine from 6 months, according to all the guidelines. (But you are meant to use boiled water to make up formula feeds until 12 months)

colditz · 16/10/2007 23:21

You can, from 6 months, it's not a problem. My HV said from 6 months.

Then again, she is a bloody looper

IdrisTheDragon · 16/10/2007 23:26

I gave DS and DD tap water from 6 months.

Hope your DD gets better soon.

The only thing to add is that babies under a year old shouldn't have softened water because of the higher sodium content. Softened is different to filtered as it goes through an ionic exchange column surrounded by softener salt to reduce the calcium and save damage to things like washing machines, dishwashers and pipework.
