I've been putting this off for weeks now.

I've got a huge fleshy lump just inside my vagueness. I'm not sure how long it's been there as I only noticed that hen it became really itch a few weeks ago.

I'm so scared that it's something serious. It started bleeding today.

I will be ringing the gp tomorrow but I'm dreading the thought of someone rummaging about in me and even more so of the results of any tests.

Oh my goodness I was reading this thread as I have finally bitten the bullet and made a telephone gp appointment for next week about a similar issue. From googling, I am certain it is a urethral diverticulum I have. It isn't in my vaginal entrance, it's sort of higher up.

Would you mind me asking did you have any other symptoms?

@cricketmum84 hi, I think I also have this and I was wondering how you’d got on?

Hi Tatty!

So I had the MRI and they saw that it was a rather large diverticulum. My consultant explained all the risks that were increased by the sheer size of it and I decided not to go ahead with the op in the end. She did say a lot of women live with them and never ever realise it's there and once they had cleared up the recurrent water infections I have been a lot better. I've accepted it as an extra bit of me lol!

Please don't be worried about getting it looked at though.

@cricketmum84 thanks so so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it as I’m very anxious at the moment. If it’s not too personal please can I ask you some other questions? what size is yours? I think mine is 3cm. Have you been discharged in a sense or do you have further management scans? Did your consultant advise if there was any risks surrounding leaving it be?

Mine became apparent at 30 weeks pregnant and they thought I had prolapsed. MRI 12 weeks after birth showed diverticulum.

Thank you

cricketmum84 · 28/09/2021 14:59

Honestly please don't worry.

So it's hard to say how big it is, I would probably say about the same maybe 3-4cm.

When we discussed the mri results the consultant explained that if you look at your urethra as a clock the length of my diverticulum would be 2-10 which is pretty big.

I am at higher risk of infection now so the GP throw some antibiotics my way if I start with symptoms but no risks really of just leaving it there. And the pain and incontinence problems stopped as soon as they sorted the infections.

She thinks mine came from a particularly traumatic ventouse delivery 17 years ago and only just noticed last year! I'm quite shocked that it was never mentioned at smear tests!

Some of the risks explained were recurrence, developing incontinence and needing a permanent catheter, scarring of the urethra, fistula which causes irjnary leakage from the vagina and constant pain. Which is why I decided against it. It does depend on how much it is affecting you though. I took the decision that the risks of surgery outweighed the benefits x

@cricketmum84 thank you, I can’t begin to say how much I appreciate you going all through that info.

I have spent weeks googling and worrying then googling and worrying some more. I was under gynae but now waiting on my urology referral appt.

cricketmum84 · 28/09/2021 18:07

@Tatty1987 stay away from Dr Google lol. It's really not as bad as it first sounds. I haven't had an infection for months now and can barely even tell it's there. I was absolutely terrified when I first found it too! But it's really not that bad x
