Sinusitis - help!

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 06/11/2020 14:18

I was recently told that those horrible headaches I get are due to sinusitis. And that apparently there isn't much in the way of medicine that I can take to make it better. So I was wondering whether anyone here suffers from sinusitis and can share any helpful tips. TIA

Liquid ibuprofen (nurofen) helps to take the edge off. Also helpful is hot water bottle, keep it on your sinuses (cheek, nose, head and back of head). A better medicine is sudafed sinus pain (ibuprofen plus phenylephrine) .
If your sinusitis is chronic then it is best to ask gp for a steroid nasal spray like avamys or nasonex.

Thank you. I will pop to my local chemist tomorrow and ask for those remedies you suggested. And see if they also have some ideas.

I suffer badly, i find the sterimar salt spray up my nose helpful and also Sainsburys congestion relief tablets are cheap and contains higher of the essential ingredient than sudofed.

Sudafed 12 hour pressure + pain containing pseudoephedrine are very good as well

Sinutab, and drink plenty of water to flush yourself out!

I have had it 11 times since April! Nothing worked at all and my GP said to try one more thing and if it doesn't work Id need to be referred on...I was prescribed Betnesol nose drops and a few weeks on I have no pressure etc. They've been a life saver

Be careful with the audafed type things, as you can only use them for a few days, and they can make it worse if used for lots longer.

Seems grim, but look into washing out / neti pots. I use a squeezy bottle one, and it really makes a difference.

Maybe also try an antihistamine.

Try to push for further tests.

I ended up having a scan, which showed that the tube to my sinus was severely narrowed. I had a day procedure (general anaesthetic) which solved it completely. It was heaven.

That was about 15 years ago, and I rarely suffer with sinusitis now (only when I have a bad cold).

Hot water bottle works for me

I used to suffer terribly with sinusitis. I found sterimar nasal spray to be a miracle cure. I kept using it for a month or so after I got rid of a really bad infection to really clear my sinuses and it worked. I don't suffer any more. Good luck x

Thank you everyone. When I told my brother he said it's probably my fault because I always let my hair air dry and that's likely to be why I now have sinusitis. In any case today it's been much, much better. I'll give the recommendations above a go - hopefully one will work.
