Molloscum Contagiosum - pusy spots?

Hi all

My 2.10 yo has molloscum quite bad (100 + blisters) but have noticed a few of them getting pusy rather than just blistery then popping. they look quite angry, more like a normal spot, but if you squeeze them the head goes and you get the hard lump out of it that you would expect.

He's had it for a year now, any tips, or just sit it out til they go on their own (does look horrid, poor little chap).

Has the GP seen them? You can actually get some treatment when they are really bad.

oh really? didn't know that, poor soul, he is quite proud of them, shows everyone, but hides from daddy at bedtime in case he squeezes anymore!

This happened to ds and dd when they had it. With both of them, they went away after the pussy stage but they did look really awful!

probably best not to squeeze them to be honest (hard not to I know) but in this case it may be making them worse. See GP.

the pusy ones seem to hurt him and since he has a huge clump under his arm he is always holding his arms out...but my god they don't half bleed when they go.

Put sudocrem on one last night and it was gone this morning - might lather him up after bath tonite.

For about 18 months - I thought they would never go away. They both looked like they had plague!

when they get infected the immune system finally realises that they are there and usually then gets rid of the virus. If it's spread across many different areas each area may have to get infected before they go.

My gp explained that the virus evades the human immune system and only gets detected when they get infected which is why you can have them for years or only a few weeks. My dd had excema so hers were itchy and she scrtached them, they got infected so had them less than a month start to finish

car girl, thanks thats really informative, hoping this is the end of it for him, bless.....

I took dd (3 1/2) to see our gp a couple of months ago because she had, what was in the beginning a tiny dot and grew into what I thought looked mole-like; she said it was this (I'd never heard of it before). She only has the one and, to me, it still does look just like a mole. It hadn't occured to me to squeeze it. There is only the one but the doctor did advise they were highly contagious. She's had it since she was borm (I think). I have no advice to give but am highly interested so read that other children get them. A bit of a ramble really!!!

saythatagain, I had always assumed they happened in clumps - DT is covered on his torso, under one arm, belly and tops of his legs. (some on his bottom too bless him). I think the unique quality is the dimple in the middle and then when they are about to go the centre pushes its way out, well it does on dt - if you distract him you can just pull those ones off without squeezing as they are ready and they don't bleed.

I'm hoping that cos we've gone infected that his are starting to clear up, cos it is unsightly and does put other parents off their kids playing with yours.

Hi, sorry bit late to this tread but my DD has them. They started abou 6 months ago on her back and have moved around to her chest as well - she was 100++. She had a big one on her back which got infected, we were given some antibiotic cream which cleared it up (the infected one not the whole lot). This was a couple of months ago. About 80% of hers are small pin prick size, the others a bigger pussy looking - but not infected like the one on her back. The doctor offered us some cream to get rid of them, apparently it inflames them, which Im guessing causes the immune response someone mentioned?? He mentioned the cream was unlicenced, and it made them really sore. As they are not bothering DD and will eventually clear up I decided we would leave them alone for the time being.
ps sorry about the typing DS tipped milk on the keyboard and half the keys dont work now!
