Hi, had my gall bladder out 8 weeks ago and last night woke having an attack of pain similar to when I had gall stones.
I s this normal and has anyone else had this.
It didn't last long but I was in a lot of pain.

Was right across the front of my torso under breasts.

Worth getting it checked.

Do you suffer from heartburn?

LittleMissNorty · 17/10/2007 10:20

Had you eaten something fatty? Obviously now you don't have a gall bladder, you don't have any bile to digest the fat.....check with GP!

my mum had a lot of adhesions after her gall bladder was removed. this ( i think) is scar tissue that can cause obstructions/spasms of pain. She has to watch her diet very very carefully to manage this, avoiding particulary 'farty' foods, raw veg , stuff that is difficult to digest, stuff high in fat content. hth get thee back to gp i think!

Yes, I had exactly this - I think I already posted you about this just after your op - or maybe not. Anyway, I had mine out last August and this August had another horrific attack that felt exactly the same as the first one with gall bladder in situ. Was really p*** off. Was certainly not fatty food. Dr explained that it could be liver / panreas infection / pancreatitus / gall stone stuck in a duct / or something else. My blood test showed several abnormalities and I was treated as if liver infection and have been fine since. However I'm suspicious it was actually a stone that blocked a duct as this can also cause liver infection apparantly. If it happens again I'm going to be refered to a liver specialist. I hope I didn't have my gall bladder removed for nothing

my surgeon said they can miss the stones when they take out the gall baldder, so it may have been that. However I had mine out last April & occasionally I get the pain again (sometimes when eaten chips or similar) and sometimes not. Think it is just one of those things.
I'd (if i was good which I am not) would keep a note of when and why attacks happen and go abck to gp/consultant

Hi sorry for long delay, been so busy this week and dh beating me to net.
I SPOKE TO G.P over phone and she seemed at lost to what caused pain as according to her any stray stones would cause jaundice etc.
Jalopy yes get heartburn.
Debbie I think did post with you before.
I had a lot of post op pain but it was that sicky dull ache thingy. This was so similar to bilary colic.
One thing gp suggested was attack of wind in that area so who knows.
Been told to get appointment if happens again.

My blood test did show bilirubin (no idea how to spell it) which apparantly would suggest I had jaundice, but I didn't look jaundice or feel poorly other than the attack - very strange. Maybe it'll never happen again and we'll all live gall bladder free happily ever after

Babyramone, ask to be referred back to the hospital where you had the surgery. A friend of mine who had a successful removal of her gall bladder unfortunately continued to have this sort of symptom intermittently afterwards. There is a name for this syndrome (sorry, I cannot remember what it is) and some unlucky patients develop it post-surgery. I'd ask to be checked to rule it out. She has the pain with no sign of jaundice. She has been told there is no risk to her health btw, it's not serious, but it is annoying, obviously.
