Help! DS2 has temperature but keeps being sick after Calpol. Any ideas what I can give him for the temp but that will stay down?
TIA

How old is he, can he have neurofen?

Tommy · 16/10/2007 07:46

he's 4 - could have neurofen but am slightly worried about that too as the last time he had it, he was sick

For some reason, I am thinking that when DS1 had gastroenteritis (sp?) the GP suggested I gave him Piriton to stop him being sick...?

Piriton won't bring his temp down, and will make him sleepy...not sure if it would stop him throwing up Calpol, either.

Do you think there's a psychological element? ie, if he hates the taste, he could be reacting to that rather than the ingredients themselves? If so, you could try sticking it in some juice, or milk...my dd hates Calpol these days, but likes it disguised with a big spoonful of sugar/honey in milk

Otherwise, I'd risk the Nurofen once, at least...

We have Alvedon suppositories in the house for when this happens with DS - he tends to vomit whenever he has a fever... Try asking for them over counter at chemist - it's only paracetamol, same content as Calpol but different (ahem) delivery method so can't believe it's prescription only. But not sure as we did get ours on prescription...

Best of luck, hope better soon!

I got suppositories on prescription from our GP when we had the same problem with dd. I can't see why you couldn't get them off prescription but tbh I have never tried

Surely your gp would prescribe some for you today if you can't get them over the counter? Even if you can't get your ds to the surgery you might be able to get a prescription over the phone.
