Loss of hearing after ear infection

I had two ear infections in the space of a month. I had antibiotics the first time around and when it happened the second time around I had enough antibiotic spray to use again which stopped the pain within around three days. My ear was blocked on and off so I tried using otex ear drops to unblock my ear. In the last few days I feel like the hearing in my left ear is noticeably impaired. If I hold a glass of tonic near my right ear I can hear the fizzing. If I hold it near my left ear I hear no fizzing at all. I tried ear syringing very gently but no wax came out. I can’t feel pressure in the ear and it doesn’t feel blocked anymore. I’m going to ring the gp on Monday but I’m terrified that I have damaged my ear. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what happened?

After the otex what sometimes happens is the wax softens so well with the drops that it sort of melts and fills the ear canal so it completely blocks any sound getting through. You only need a tiny gap in the wax for sound to get through but once any gaps have gone it will mean you can’t hear, so it could be that rather than permanent hearing impairment. Try putting olive oil in 2/3 times a day with your head on one side, giving your ear a massage, and see if that helps to soften and shift any wax to see if there is any sound improvement. Try not to worry.

Micro suction. Don't faff around with olive oil- waste of time.

I had this after an ear infection and it cam back after a few months. Stop putting things in it though!

I had this during and after an ear infection too. I was told it's normal and can take several weeks to normalise. I think it took about 3 weeks in my case.
I wouldn't be putting anything in a recently infected ear unless you've been advised to though.

I had this once. I lost hearing for about a month then one day I did an enormous yawn. There was a cracking whooshing sensation, and everything became loud again.

I've had this on and off for years since I had a very bad ear nose and throat infection. Most of the time I'm at about 90-95% ok in the one ear but its annoying.
It doesnt help that I appear to have a yankee candle factory in there with the amount of wax I churn out. My ears are often itchy and feel scummy.
If you find any solution I would love to know.

Thanks for the replies. I’m hoping I can get an appointment for someone to take a look in the ear and tell me if it looks blocked or not. Fingers crossed it is and this is what’s causing the loss of hearing.

I had this too, it goes on its own but it feels like it never will.

My brain got bored of silence so I had classical music played on an organ of all things all day which stopped when the infection finally went.

I don’t even like music that much. I was happy with the silence.
