Help/advice...Agonising piles!

Chab92 · 31/10/2020 10:18

I am 9 weeks Postpartum and STILL suffering with horrific piles! I’m kept awake through the night and feel as though I have shards of glass there every time I take a step 😩 I sleep with my feet elevated, used all the creams/wipes/etc I can think of, bathed in salts and the doctors best advice was to prescribe me more creams and tell me to ‘give it time’ 😢. Feeling desperate now as I can’t enjoy being a new mum at all as I’m in so much constant pain.

I’m sorry you’re going through this.

It’s so painful isn’t it? I’m currently having a flare up as I’ve had them on and off since having DS nearly 11 years ago Sad i think for me it depends on how stressed am I as the slightest thing sets it off at the moment.

My doctor prescribed Vagisil - apparently it contains an ingredient which will numb the pain promote healing so that might be worth a go?

Hope you find some relief

Star8181 · 31/10/2020 13:33

Oh I feel your pain, it’s just horrible. I tried every single thing you can get over the counter but it didn’t help. The only thing that worked was Scheriproct which you have to get on prescription - honestly, it worked in 12 hours. Have you had that one?

Chab92 · 31/10/2020 14:39

@Star8181 it’s absolutely awful and there’s no respite from it at all... I’ve had the sheriproct ointment and suppositories to use which did help a bit but haven’t got rid of them and don’t work for me on the longer term unfortunately. 9 weeks after birth I had really hoped to be feeling more normal 😞 so disheartening and it takes over everything

I’ve had them continuously since giving birth 9 weeks ago and I’m in so much pain I can barely do anything without wanting to burst into tears. I feel as though I’ve tried everything but I’d never heard of using vagisil, has it worked?? I’m at the point of dreading having to go to the toilet every time and it just feel down all the time

Have you used a suppository? That was the only thing that helped mine. Own brand were fine, several times a day every day even if it's getting better.
They need to go back in, as well, if you can manage it. Perhaps after a bath with Epsom salts?

Chab92 · 31/10/2020 15:18

@picklemewalnuts yes!! I’m on box number 3 of suppositories now but they have got almost too painful to put any of the pellets in at the moment. Yeah I’ve been trying to push them back in when they appear, really not pleasant at all but they are big and keep reappearing within a few minutes. The throbbing is so painful at the moment

And keeping your feet raised?
Eating all the right things?
A cold pack to shrink them, before pushing them in and using the suppository? It really is a bit of a full time job managing them to the point of them staying put.

I'm sorry, it must be awful. I've not had them very badly- since I started using the suppositories it nipped it in the bud.

Chab92 · 31/10/2020 16:47

Feet are raised all night as I have a remote control bed that I’m borrowing, i have gel cold packs but have to wait for them to keep refreezing between uses. It sounds crude but I’m never sure how ‘far in’ to push them either. I physically don’t feel able to do anything much at all which is frustrating after all this time now. Should be back to walking and exercising by now really

Insist on more support from your GP

Chab92 · 31/10/2020 21:58

I have tried believe me! Spoke to about 4 doctors between the gps and the drs at the hospital where I gave birth

Is the gp sure it's the piles? I had bad piles and the pain you described. It turned out it was torn and granulated episiotomy and a piece of skin they 'forgot' to stitch. A course of anti biotics helped the wound (it was kinda hidden by the piles 🤦🏼‍♀️) and a small op helped the latter.

Miljea · 31/10/2020 23:06

OP, I am sympathetic yet outraged on your behalf. I can offer nothing constructive, sadly (I recall dreadful piles, postpartum..)...

But imagine if it were a man going through this? Would they tolerate it?

Sorry, my angry feminist awoke, there. But sometimes, I think that if we go to the GP/midwife/obstetrician and project like a man would- we'd be taken more seriously.

I hope you get it sorted. You don't need to go on tolerating it as a 'wimmin's' problem.

Just wanted to thank you all for your suggestions and support... still not healed up but been to an appointment and being treated for a fissure as I've been in utter agony
