Hair loss years ago - female

About 7 years ago I noticed that I was losing hair from my fringe so went to the GP. They took bloods and said that my iron was on the low side of normal so buy some iron and that was that.
No improvement after about 12 months and reading that taking iron unnecessarily could be carcinogen made me decide to stop.
I’ve lost about an inch from the front which is not visible when I brush my fringe forward.
I’m on thyroxine and it’s well controlled.
My dad started to lose his hair from either side of his fringe in his 20’s.
Nothing grows so I assume the hair follicles are dead now.
Is there anything I should have done different at the time, or is there anything I can do now other than a hair transplant ?

Try taking vitamin D.
I've sufferer with hairloss for years. It just didn't seem to stay on my head. They floor,
and my pillows were covered in it, and the hoover full of it.
Found out I was vitamin D deficient at the start of the year. I was given a very high loading dose and I now take healthspan vitamin D every day
My hair looks and feels better than it has for decades. Good luck, it's horrible hating your hair. Hope that you find something that works Flowers

There is a lovely poster on here who has chronicled her hair loss story. She now wears fabulous wigs. If you would like to look up her threads her name is @Ilovecherries
(I hope that she doesn't mind me mentioning this!)

Your best bet would be to see a trichologist though you would have to pay privately.

You could have aleopica caused by vitamin/mineral issues, hormone issues, genetic factors or any combination. It isn't just low iron levels that can cause hair loss.

I had the same. Dad lost his hair in his twenties and mums hair is really thin. I am in my forties, have hair but just very very thin and receding at the front and fine at the back. Spent hundreds on vitamins to no avail, I've had a hair system fitted by a company called Hairsolved (there are others out there too). It's like a weave on the crown of my head and I get it tightened every month. I have hair again and I love it. By all means see a trichologist, but thus could also be an option ?
