What is this on my nipple?

For just over a month I've had a bump on my areola, it started out flesh coloured but it's now red although I think this could be because I've picked and squeezed it to see if it's a spot Blush closest thing I've been able to find on google is Montgomery's tubercles but I can't find any pictures that look exactly like it so not sure. I can post a picture but not sure if a nipple picture is allowed by mumsnet HQ??

Thanks in advance!

I wonder if it was simply a blocked Montgomery gland. I wouldn’t pick and squeeze it anymore and see what happens. Give it a chance to heal. I got a nipple bleb once. I just had to leave it till it sorted itself out. I wouldn’t let my partner see that boob for about two months Grin

Does it form a head after a while? I had an abscess a few years ago. Started as a red bump then formed a head. The head would come away with a little pus then it would start off again as a little red bump. My GP drained it (all quite painful but harmless) and it never returned.

@MellowMelly It does look similar to a Montgomery gland but everything I've read about them is in relation to pregnancy or breastfeeding and I'm not pregnant (done tests after reading about Montgomery tubercles) and I've never been pregnant. Can they occur without being pregnant or breastfeeding?

@Wishimaywishimight No head as of yet!

Do you reckon I should phone the doctor about it or just monitor it for a while longer?

Phone the doctor.

They can get blocked/clogged without being pregnant or breast feeding. You can definitely phone for advice from a GP. The reason I suggested not picking or squeezing for a few days was to see if it has cleared itself and you’re currently left with just an aggravated gland from the picking and then at least if a doctor wants to have a look they might get a better idea of what it is.
