Shut your eyes and stand on one leg
How long can you manage it for and how old are you?

I'm a bit worried-I'm only 35 and can't manage to do this for more than a few seconds. I've had some other general symptoms that could be something or nothing, but the balance thing is really bothering me

I’m in but I’ll try in the morning!

Why does balance bother you particularly?

Balance is something you can improve with practice at any rate...

TasslesandFringes · 21/10/2020 23:08

In bed!

VeggieSausageRoll · 21/10/2020 23:09

My proprioception is awful. I can barely stand up straight without a visual point of reference. Turning the light off and getting across the room to the bed at night is interesting!

Littlefish · 21/10/2020 23:19

I can't balance on one leg at all! I had labrynthitis about 18 years ago, and ever since then my balance has been awful.

OrtamLeevz · 21/10/2020 23:31

I just tried for you - a princely 7 seconds!

Can manage a whole lot longer than that if I have my eyes open though. Over a minute no problem.

cariadlet · 21/10/2020 23:40

My pilates teacher makes us do this - 10 seconds on each leg and then 10 on whichever is our worst leg. I've got reasonably good core strength but my balance is rubbish. I'm bad enough with my eyes open; hopeless with my eyes shut. I've never managed the 10 seconds without wobbling like mad and usually putting my foot down at least once.

MasksGlovesSoapScrubs · 21/10/2020 23:47

28
12 seconds each leg but I'm tired.

BritInAus · 21/10/2020 23:49

only a few seconds, it's hard!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 21/10/2020 23:51

15 seconds on my right leg although my ankle was shaking from about 3 seconds.

I'm 30

seayork2020 · 21/10/2020 23:55

I am 45 and tried it and I could not do it for long, I used to when I was younger do it for ages (my friends and I did weird things like that for fun so it stands out for me) so I am wondering if it is a normal age thing.

I am not saying at all not to check it out but trying not to panic you about it either.

Frequentcarpetflyer · 22/10/2020 15:17

How long are you meant to be able to do it for?

Juniperandrage · 22/10/2020 15:18

I'm dyspraxic, I can't do it at all

TabbyStar · 22/10/2020 15:26

I can do it for quite a long time, over 30 seconds sometimes, but that's because I had similar concerns to you OP because my dad had a neurological condition and practised a lot. Do yoga, lots of standing on one leg!

Frequentcarpetflyer · 22/10/2020 15:42

So, where does your other foot have to go? Can you use your arms for balance?

merryhouse · 22/10/2020 15:46

Just did a minute but I wasn't still at all - foot was rocking from side to side the entire time.

I'm 51, but I've been practising.

kissmelittleass · 22/10/2020 16:39

Just tried it I did 29 seconds with eyes closed with a bit of shaking ! but can go a lot longer with eyes open I'm 52

Frequentcarpetflyer · 22/10/2020 16:50

Hmmm I can't do it that long with my eyes closed, perhaps I need sturdy boots? No,problem with eyes open though Why are we doing this @MobLife?

Littleposh · 22/10/2020 16:52

I found my balance improved massively when I started exercising and strengthened my core
