Hi just as the title says really I have had near enough continual bleeding since June, Provera worked for about a week now I have to try the pill. HAs anyone else experienced this and should I be worried about anything sinister??

What a pain for you.
I would go back to the Dr who may do swabs and a smear, have you just had a baby, changed partners or changed contraception?

SheilaNaGig · 13/10/2007 20:07

Yes, I have had the same problem since the beginning of August.

Don't be fobbed off by trying the Pill. Bleeding can be caused by fibroids, polyps, endometriosis. Unlikely to be cancer, as that usually only causes bleeding after sex but you should still have a smear to rule it out.

There is a tablet called norethisterone which they can give you to stop the bleeding, and once it has stopped you need to see a gynaecologist. They can take tissue from the lining of the womb (no worse than having a smear test) and give you a scan to check what's going on with regard to fibroids, cysts and so on.

Please go back to your GP and push for a referral. The chances are that it's hormonal, but you really do need to get fibroids and so on ruled out - they are easy to treat if that's what you have; apparently the preferred treatment these days is the Mirena coil.

Hiya I have recently been diagnosed with pcos, however my gp is blaming this bleeding on DUB (dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding). I was offered the coil and then told to take provera and now am being told to take the pill. I have had a smear done and have had a scan so fibroids etc have been ruled out. I was stressing about endometrial cancer. Can I ask you a personal question??? Is your bleeing like a continual period or is it spotting etc??

My bleeding is horrendously heavy - like a continual period and then some. Very heavy, fresh blood, lots of clots.

I am taking the norethisterone which initially worked very quickly. You have to have a break every three weeks though, and once I stopped taking the tablets the bleeding came back and hasn't yet stopped again, although I've been taking them again for two weeks.

Please go back and get a referral to a gynaecologist. They will get the endometrial sampling done, which will rule out endometrial cancer (one of my worries too), and refer you for scans as well.

GPs aren't the best people to advise you about this, you really do need to see a gynae.

singyswife · 13/10/2007 20:27

I have been asked to be referred back to gynie. I did see them last year but I wasnt bleeding like this. I am trying not to worry about cancers as my gp told me I was too young and other than the bleeding I dont have any other symptoms. I am so glad I have found someone else who has this.

Sounds hormonal but if not settling with the pill( presume its a combined one)I would request a gynae referral. It may take 3 months of taking the pill continually for it to settle.

SheilaNaGig · 13/10/2007 20:31

Your GP doesn't seem to be taking it very seriously at all - telling you that you are "too young" for cancer isn't very helpful when you are worried!

Seeing the gynae should be the first port of call; if he thinks the Pill is the best bet he will telll you - but he needs to rule out other causes first.

You can cat me for a chat offline if you would like to.

singyswife · 13/10/2007 20:32

Yeah she did say 3 months. I have also been put on metformin. My problem is the last time I took the pill the hormone built up to such an extent that I suffered terrible depression and not only cried for 3 days straight but also wanted to leave my husband and kids cause I was convinced they were better off without me. I really dont want to have to take the pill but the alternative is this horrible bleeding.

I'll email you, if that's OK

(I'm a recent name-changer, by the way - I used to be WWB)

SheilaNaGig · 13/10/2007 21:04

Not that I mind talking here - just thought it might be easier by email.

I had a lot of pain at the beginning of the bleeding, but as the time went on that stopped. When the bleeding started again when I stopped the norethisterone, the pain started again but eased off after about 8 or 9 days.

Will still email you though
