Earache anyone got any things that help ease it?

I woke up at 4am with earache only in one ear and I can hear my pulse whooshing in it too. I took some painkillers which took the edge off and I felt better when I woke up this morning but it’s come back with a vengeance now. I’ve just had a cold last week so it’s probably to do with that.

Anyone use anything to help ease the pain.

Anyone? It’s really hurting now and my temperature has gone up to 38.8. I’ve got a warm pillow on it which is helping a bit.

Hope you feel better now. Earache is the worst.
I had terrible earache a few years back and recall reading that mouthwash (I used Listerine) on a cotton wool ball and then left in ear works. It really did!

Alternate every 4 hours paracetamol ibuprofen (just don't go over max daily dose) warm hot water bottle on ear. Also possibly something to open up your sinus to release pressure - steam/vapour rub etc. If it Dosent get better in a few days or there is discharge from the ear call doc/111. I have a son who has chronic glue ear so we live off pain killers!

As your an adult (sorry I'm used to kid ears) you could also try cocodamol but it will make you feel woozy.

Nurofen is the best painkiller for earache. You can get some from your pharmacist. They also should be able to give you eardrops to kill any outer infection.

I also used a colloidal silver spray in my ear and that can help too.

Thanks, I will try those. Unfortunately I’m allergic to ibuprofen and that type of painkiller. I have got fluid in it.

I might have to phone the Doctors tomorrow as my temperature spiked once the ‘drugs’ wore off and I’ve never had such a sore ear. It’s full of fluid too.

Heat salt until it browns (microwave is the easiest) then wrap in a muslin/sock & put your ear on top of it. Hugely comforting

That sounds like an ear infection to me (DS1 is prone to them due to a glue ear) I would say you need antibiotics to be honest. I'd call 111 and see what they suggest or your GP first thing.

I hope you feel better soon.

This will be very frowned upon, but I warm.olive oil, test it on the inside of my wrist, trickle it in the throbbing ear, pop a cotton wool 'plug' with olive on it in the top of my ear and lie down so oil can trickle down ear.

It works for me, but obviously putting things in your ear is not advisable!

It definitely helps take the pain off.

If it's discharging fluid, the eardrum could have ruptured/perforated. Do NOT put anything in your ear, even cotton wool, as it get get into the Eustachian Tube. It need to be examined by a doctor, possibly a swab taken and you need antibiotics by the sound of it. You also have a high temperature which points to a bacterial infection. Get it seen pronto, tomorrow

notapizzaeater · 19/10/2020 20:44

Have you any anti histamines ? They can help reduce the fluid.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve had a call back from my GP surgery this morning and they are giving me some antibiotics and a spray.
