Perforated eardrum

About three weeks ago I had an ear infection that I had treated with antibiotics. Unfortunately they didn't agree with my stomach and so I stopped taking them. Two weeks later I had an excruciating pain in my ear and I then passed out, hitting my face off a radiator on the way down. A night in A&E showed that I had a perforated eardrum and it was probably that that had caused me to pass out. I've been left with a bruised, scarred face and a sore jaw. However my ear is still sore. I've been on another lot of antibiotics which finish tomorrow but I was wondering when I can expect to feel better? I'm still having spells of light headedness and pain. Blood pressure is fine as are all my blood tests/ eeg. It's definitely the ear. I'm supposed to be on holiday this week but am not able to drive any distance for fear of passing out again. I'd appreciate any feedback...

@Mehripoop I had to speak to the GP about mine too. I'm scared stiff I'll fall again. I don't trust myself yet dizziness wise!

@Mehripoop I'm on holiday at the moment so trying to relax but all I can see is everyone else having fun and a great time while I'm trying desperately to not let the panic take over. It's horrible, I hate it so much and so frustrating that I can't just find an off switch or block my ears to the sound. How are you managing today?

FeatherySquawkington · 25/10/2020 18:55

Mine almost feels like it's coming from inside my head

FeatherySquawkington · 25/10/2020 18:56

I can almost feel the sound in my neck. I do think it's jaw related, I can't make my back teeth meet on the affected side so something must be inflamed.

Oh god I burst mine with an ear infection a few years ago and it was one of the worst things I’ve done! I feel for you. I would say the worst of it (pain, lots of gross leaking) was over in about 10 days but it probably took about 6 weeks until my hearing was back to normal. No lasting damage except I get really panicky if I get a sore ear!

To be honest the ensuing head injury has been worse to cope with than the burst eardrum, although the buzzing is maddening. My jaw underneath is still horribly tender, although my scar has healed up quite nicely. What a rubbish few weeks.

@surlycurly hope you’re feeling better x

Aw thank you @Mehripoop. I'm coping with the buzzing but I'm very noise sensitive and a bit deaf! My ear does seem to be sore in the evenings too!

@surlycurly aw hope you recover soon! I’m
Noise sensitive too but I think that’s my anxiety

surlycurly · 30/10/2020 21:38

@Mehripoop I'm autistic so have noise issues normally but this week back at school has been grim! I'm either deaf or wincing all the time!
