I suffer really badly from internal and external haemorrhoids. they become much worse when I get my period. I would like to try homeopathy. could anyone recommend what to take, dosage and strength?

Or go and see your doctor, who can prescribe you something that works...

Homeopathy for haemorrhoids would be a great band name though.

i have ...I've heard that homeopathy can work. i'm reluctant to pay a fortune before seeking some advice and i thought someone on Mumsnet might be able to help

Homeopathy cannot work. I don't think the placebo effect has an impact on piles...

AnnaMagnani · 17/10/2020 20:30

Where have you heard that homeopathy can work?

It is impossible for homeopathy to work. Get an appointment with your GP and get your haemorrhoids dealt with. If they are really bad external ones you may need them banded.

randomer · 17/10/2020 20:32

Sorry, you've got this condition, its rotten. Boring things like drink plenty of water, eat fruit, linseed seeds and oil is good, something called psyllium husks, frozen peas wrapped in clean cloth applied to area and legs up can help.

AuntyFungal · 17/10/2020 20:34

Homeopathy = £££ that doesn’t work.

Cheaper and more effective to nip to chemist.

Drink lots of fluids.
Eat veg, pulses - add lots of fibre to daily diet.
Psyllium husk from health food shop.

cariadlet · 17/10/2020 20:36

If homeopathy really worked, a lot of people would have suffered adverse side effects following the worldwide mass overdoses that took place in pro-science demos back in 2010.

The idea of repeatedly watering down a concoction until there's only the dilutent is left and then saying that it can cure anything is patently ridiculousm

gassylady · 17/10/2020 20:37

Homeopathic remedies are claimed to be more powerful the more diluted in water they are. Save yourself some money and have a sit in a nice warm bath!

cariadlet · 17/10/2020 20:38

Ignore the typos (although even with the typos, my post made more sense than homeopathy).

What could you possibly dilute down in water that would work???

Honestly homeopathy is such a load of old crap and you’d be wasting your money. If your topical treatments aren’t working get referred to a general surgeon for further treatment. I’m sorry that you’re suffering but I’m afraid woo isn’t going to solve this.

homeopathy is not medicine.
it does not work. at. all.
it can't. it has no active ingredients, it is basically just sugar (or alkohol if a liquid)

go to the chemist for medicine for minor haemorrhoids, to the gp if you've got a bad case.

Babdoc · 17/10/2020 21:03

OP, all of the PPs are correct. Homeopathy is nonsense. You can buy over the counter haemorrhoid cream such as Anusol, which will shrink small piles, but if yours are beyond that you need to see your GP for a surgical referral. They can be banded or injected in the clinic, or you can have a formal haemorrhoidectomy.
You should get them checked out in any case, as rectal bleeding can be due to cancer and not necessarily just the result of piles.

whattodo2019 · 17/10/2020 21:11

Back to the GP it is then. i haven't used homeopathy before but i can clearly see it's a pile of crap. thanks for warning me
