I used to get this prob all the time but is years since I last had it and I can't remember what to do! Today I can't move my head at all nodding forwards or side to side (ear to shoulder rather than shaking head IYKWIM). It is bloody agony, I feel like I need a neck brace! Not sure whether I should just carry on as normal or go home and lie down. Anyone?

Am waiting for my osteopath to phoneme but is taking ages grrrrr

and it's my birthday Think I will cancel it.

Happy Birthday CD

if you've injured it doing something recently then try something cold.

if it's just 'that way out' put something warm on it. those microwabe wheat bags are really good.

if you work town centre, Boots may sell them, then you'd need a microwave

hope it eases soon

Happy birthday CD, sorry about your neck. Go home, lie down, take chocolate hourly until the sun is over the yardarm then switch to a nicely chilled Viognier.

I did my neck in last week so you have my complete sympathy. I saw my chiropractor who managed to fix things though I had a couple of days of pain while it settled.
I was advised to use ice on the area to help with the inflammation and to take painkillers.
Sorry your birthday is not what you might have wished - I agree that alcohol and chocolate sound like a plan (tho watch the alcohol and the painkillers....!)

Whiplash? I'm very prone 2 it so am expert. Ice is bad 4 it, just gentle care & time 2 get better.

Oh I symapathise entirely as a fellow stiff neck merchant.
I had this last year when preggie and was diagnosed with Acute Torticollis. Twisted neck.
Couldn't move neck, couldnt have pills as I was preggie, so had physiotherapy. Neck excercies to do and wheat packs. I also highly recommend chocolate- important for comfort
I hope your birthday wasn't a complete washout,take care.

I get this quite a bit since a car accident many years ago - the muscles just go into spasm and don't seem to want to unspasm themselves!! See if you can find a 'sports massage therapist' near you and book yourself in. They can work wonders and will also give you some great exercises you can try yourself to ease the pain and discomfort if it ever happens again. Chiropractors and Osteopaths are great (I know - I also use them alot!) but if it is muscular, there is little that they will be able to about it.....
