How to ease sinus pain.

I’ve had a cold this week and my sinuses are hurting especially round my top teeth, and in my face. I’ve been taking some of the cold and flu remedies which are easing it a bit, but it comes back with a vengeance after about three hours. Has anyone got any other things that have helped?

Nasal lavage ?

ShashukaSally · 15/10/2020 12:19

Google a sinus wash
It's not pleasant but does help

Nasal wash. Spread Vicks over your face. Sudafed for Sinus pressure and pain or Syndol.
Hope you recover soon, it's horrible.

Also if you push your tongue up to the roof of your mouth and press between your eyebrows it's supposed to drain your sinuses.

Thank you, I will give all these a try.

I reduced dairy and this definitely helped

Neri pot is the only thing that ever helped my sinuses (well that and moving out of our run down rental...) J

Gah posted too quickly- wanted to add, make sure you read the instructions about using cool boiled water and the correct amounts of water and salt

Another voice recommending the neti pot / nasal rinse thing. The relief is palpable.
You could also try steaming.
Another tip I was given was when you blow your nose to clear only one nostril at a time i.e. hold one nostril shut and blow the other one and vice versa. If you do both at once it pushes the gunk further up and hurts more. Get well soon (sympathetic nod from fellow sinus sufferer).

Hot food makes my nose etc run and that helps. Like steaming my face. Perhaps with one single tiny menthol crystal (those things are powerful).

Deffo try neti pot / sinus wash. I used the Neilmed squeezy bottle one.
Also google sinus massage. Helps a bit.

And putting a hot water bottle on the painful bit gives a bit of relief.

You can buy a nasal spray that contains capsaicin and although it burns a little when you use it it’s worth it as the pain is definitely lessened.
They sell it in on amazon, it’s called Capsinol.

I use otrivine sinusitis spray, regular decongestant tablets I find morrisons own brand are the best, and I actually ended up really poorly at the go because my sinus infection ended up being bacterial and took four rounds of antibiotics before I felt human again 👍🏻

Just make sure you don't use a decongestant for more than three days op as it will have a rebound effect.
