Any drs around to help me? I've been struggling since July, headaches, dizziness, visual disturbances, legs giving way, arm spasms, electric shock sensation in my head and face... currently awaiting a neurology appointment. I am happy to post a full list of what's happening to me if I get any replies. I'm so so frustrated with what's happening to me and I'm not getting any help with my gp. I've turned to googling and I know it's stupid but I don't know what else to do..

I'm not sure that any doctor will be able to help much over the internet but I understand how frustrated you must feel. Is there another gp at the surgery you could talk to?
Have they given you an indication of how long the neurological appointment might be

MsMeNz · 13/10/2020 20:19

Not a Dr. But I had something similar for months years ago saw lots of specialists turned I was not breathing correctly caused by deep set anxiety just shallow breathing of subconsciously holding my breath. At times I'd literally passout and collapse! I had some breathing work classes and some anxiety support and everything magically cleared up. But when I'm anxious and I start to get physical symptoms like tingling I'm arms etc I remember to breathe properly etc. Now of course it absolutely be something more serious only actual test can say not even a Dr on here. If you can try and go private if the wait is too long or if that's not affordable ask your Dr to escalate if possible?

Moondust001 · 13/10/2020 20:28

I'm sorry. Those are very scary symptoms for you. But honestly, they could be explained by some very simple things. Honest. It could be nothing more than a trapped nerve! And I'm NOT saying that is what it is. I know it's scary, but you need to wait for the tests. It would be totally wrong for people here to guess at what is wrong - or for you too. All I can tell you is that the simple and mundane is a far more common diagnosis than the complex and difficult. Try to be calm. Being scared could literally be making it worse!

Houndabouttown · 13/10/2020 20:32

Sounds like your GP has been helpful by referring you to neurology and you should probably wait for that appointment.

I have such a huge list, it all started with the worst migraine of my life In July, I was vomiting I couldn't move, I felt like my head was going to explode, then that settled down and I've been left with a constant headache ever since, with dizziness, nausea, numbness, tingling, electric shock sensations, ive had issues with my bladder, dropping things, I can't grip properly with my hands, ive had my vision completely go for a couple of minutes, in a separate occasion ive had black smudges in my vision. I've had my legs give way, I slur my words, ive I'm writing/typing then I often write the wrong word, but with the same letters if that makes sense, ive had my arm go numb to the point I was having a stroke or something, I have constantly shaking hands, eye floaters. Occasions where I can't walk properly because I can't feel my legs. And that's just some of it,

I do have fibromyalgia, but this isn't fibro. I've never felt like this before in my life. Drs have done an urgent referral, ive chased it up. And I'm still being told to wait, I'm just at a loss and I'm so frustrated, I have two kids, one with additional needs. I'm 28 if anyone has any ideas or suggestions or anything..

I'm not a doctor but my sister had some of those symptoms especially the eye floaters!! She had too much fluid around her brain and had to have a lumbar puncture to drain some off. Happened completely randomly no known cause, the neurologist just said her weight could have been a factor.

She is absolutely fine now, she has lost over 3 stone and it has not happened again, she is back at work and living her normal life so please try not to panic! Wait and see what the neurologist says, they are the experts!

ittakes2 · 14/10/2020 08:30

I had some of those symptoms and also diagnosed with developing fibromyalgia. Lack of sleep did not help. Amitripline and then acupuncture helped and I am off both now.

dontdisturbmenow · 14/10/2020 11:42

OP, tout know it could be something serious BUT...it could also not be.

I suffered from all of this too. Totally freaked be out. Was at the GP constantly. He diagnosed anxiety which I booboohed as the only anxiety I felt was dealing with these episodes.

I demanded a b12 test and referral for a brain MRI.

Long story short: My symptoms were admixture of lowish vit b12 mixed with starting the perimenopause. The latter caused dreadful anxiety attacks, but these were totally physical not caused at all by anxious thoughts. I didn't know it was possible to suffer such anxiety, without feeling mentally anxious.

This was 4 years ago. It got gradually better until I started the full menopause. It also helped to know what it was and that it was nothing horrible.

Still bloody scary when my eyes and legs started twitching and the sight in one eye would suddenly go all blurry lasting from a couple of hours to a couple of days. The loss of balance, slurring words...

It's almost all fine now, thank God.

Literallyfedup · 14/10/2020 12:56

Just like pp I had a really bad deficiency of b12 , had so many of your symptoms. I was barely functioning , at one point when I was out shopping I had to sit on the floor in middle of the mall and lost several minutes. I did not even loose consciousness, my dh later told me that I just kept staring in space.
I am no longer deficient but left with permanent neuropathy.

pinkbalconyrailing · 14/10/2020 12:59

did you have a blood test?
as pp say, some deficiencies (b12, iron, d3) could cause these symptoms.

good tht you have a referral though, to have a better look at the symproms.

JacobReesMogadishu · 14/10/2020 13:03

I was also going to say possibly b12 and/or vitamin d deficiency (not a doctor). Dd had similar issues and was vit d deficient (she also has fibro). I also suspect she needs a b12 trial even though her levels are just clinically ok. I’ve been reading about this and some people need higher levels.

JacobReesMogadishu · 14/10/2020 13:05

But definitely good that you’ve been referred. How long since the neurology referral? Has your GP referred you to the hospital with the lowest waiting time? Sometimes referring you to somewhere slightly further away can be quicker.

chubbalubs · 14/10/2020 16:53

I have requested a b12 check as I have been really deficient before- I also have coeliac disease. So I'm waiting for an appointment to get that checked, I got referred to a hospital 2 hours away for neurology.. so I've kept the appointment but also asked if I can be seen more locally as I don't want to travel that far when I feel like this. I got referred to the neurologist back at the end of July.

@Literallyfedup I've also been told that I've just sat staring into space, it's not a very nice feeling. Also love your username Grin

Yesterday evening I kept getting what felt like a shock all through my body everytime I moved, it moved my head, it was awful. I'm just so fed up with feeling like this.
Thank you all for your suggestions GinThanks

Right now, chasing your appointment/finding another GP is the right thing to do. However, some of those symptoms are worth going to a&e for if they happen again. If you totally lose your vision for minutes at a time or your legs are giving way beneath you so that you can't stand or walk... those are things that could be an emergency and are therefore fine to seek emergency health care for.

WitchSharkadder · 14/10/2020 17:05

Hi, OP. Like others have said it could be a range of things from physical illness to anxiety. The best thing to do is go to your neurology appointment to rule out any physical causes.

However, if it offers you some reassurance, I had very similar symptoms to you for several months last year. My left arm and leg were painful, numb and had constant pins and needles, I had facial spasms where I couldn't feel one side of my face or see out of my left eye, amongst other things. I had my bloods checked and all was fine, my GP referred me to the stroke team. I was lucky as I was seen within two days and had MRIs etc very quickly. All was absolutely fine and the neurologist said it was induced by anxiety.

He also talked to me about functional neurological disorder and somatic symptom disorder (I was very fortunate that I happened to get a consultant who had an interest in them). Obviously the most important thing is ruling out a physical cause when you experience these kinds of symptoms, but remember that your mind is a funny thing and can do all sorts to you.

I hope you're okay and that you get some answers soon. Take care Smile

MiniMum97 · 14/10/2020 18:48

What was the result if your b12 test (with range)? Has the GP run other blood tests. What were the results with ranges?
