Painful shoulder and arm keeping me awake at night

Pain started in my shoulder over a week ago and has got progressively worse and has travelled down my arm
It's so bad at night it keeps me awake
I can raise my arm above my head , in fact it actually relieves the pain to do this
Pain is like an intense throbbing cramp
Doctor said give it a week and take co codemol
I don't recall doing anything to trigger this
Any ideas what this could be ?

I had pain like that. I had physio and it made it ten times worse. The GP was useless so I paid £100 to see a consultant. He diagnosed what it was, almost immediately. He said I needed a subacromial decompression procedure, which he was happy to do on the NHS.

The procedure cured my problem immediately.

Subacromial decompression is an operation on your shoulder which treats a condition called shoulder impingement, where you feel pain when you raise your arm. It's usually done through keyhole surgery (arthroscopy). You might also hear subacromial decompression referred to as 'acromioplasty'.

My pain was worse at night, it stopped me sleeping.

I’ve got this and a private physio is helping a great deal. It’s probably linked to pregnancy which throws your body out of alignment and then carrying your baby. Also core muscles, hip placement blah blah blah. I would try even half an hour with a private physio or osteopath that has good reviews online and see how you go from there. You have my sympathies.
