Experience of Treating a Fissure with Rectogesic, bleeding again after a week of treatment

I’m struggling with the embarrassment of this one so I’m hoping someone else has been where I am. Has anyone any experience of fissures and treatment with Rectogesic?

A week ago I was prescribed Rectogesic by my GP for a fissure/ruptured pile.
She made it sound like an uncomfortable treatment but a miracle worker at the same time.
It has given me dreadful headaches and up until today I thought it was probably working.
This morning it would appear the fissure has reopened and has been bleeding again, maybe a wee bit more than it was last week. Quite sore too.
Is this to be expected? My GP has only prescribed it for 2 weeks.
Thanks, I’m a bit lost with this!

Rectogesic is usually given for much longer than that, were you meant to go back after 2 weeks? The headaches are awful, maybe use a little bit less and then build back up to the recommended dose.

Are you on softeners or anything, as if you are having hard poo then it will irritate the fissure.

Sorry you are going through this, its a miserable condition.

Hi, sorry for your pain, I know it’s bloody awful. I managed to repair a recurring fissure with upping my fibre, sweet potatoes every day,no bread or rice, loads of veg, Google has charts for High fibre foods, and sorry if this is obvious cleaning up with wet wipes after paper then cream was a game changer for me. Good luck, get better soon.

Thank you for your replies.

No, I wasn’t told to call back or anything after the 2 weeks; the pharmacy label says use for two weeks only. I think I’ll be ringing back next week then.

I’m drinking lots of fluid and keeping everything soft, which seemed to be helping until today.

Yes, it is absolutely miserable. I’m trying to be positive. It’s not life threatening, just inconvenient and sore - just hard to remember that sometimes.
