Anyone's DC had ears pinned back

My son has one 'normal' ear, and one that doesn't have the little bone in that moulds it back. If I do it manually, he gets a nice little 'mould' where it should be! (am I making any sense??!). V. hard to explain.

Anyway, it is bothering him now and he wants it done.

I have an appointment with the Plastic Surgeon next month but I have no idea what they do and how big an operation it is so I would really like some advice!

Hi my sister had it done when she was in her late teens (so about 15yrs ago). She was sore for a few days and wore a bandage about her head for a week so she was more fussed about greasy hair. Imagine that procedures and general anaethesitics are even better now so if it is bothering him then get it done as my sister now wears her hair back and up and she never would have done before. Also = kids are rotten to each other so he could get it done in school holidays and no-one would ever know. Good luck

Slight tangent but I was listening to radio 4 and they were saying they have been developing the metal they use in specs - you know, the sort that has a 'memory' so it just pings back into shape again - to use as inserts into the ear. Apparently would be much less invasive surgery, much less of a scar. But, it is a slight tangent as I say because it's still only experimental and i don't know if it would be available on the NHS - but it might be worth asking the surgeon about. Good luck.
