DH has reynauds, diagnosed this year. I want to buy him some gloves and wondered if anyone can recommend a good brand? he will still want to 'do stuff' with these gloves on as is very active so walking, driving, taking the bins out that kind of stuff..any tips?

Ohohoh - silk liners - he needs silk liners! I use these and north face ‘paws’ (very thick cloves). I also use silk sock liners too.

My mother and sister both have/had reynauds. Mother never found any gloves that worked, sister uses leather gloves. I don’t have reynauds but my hands do get really cold and leather or suede is the only type that works for me.

Hopefully someone else will have more knowledge/different ideas.

Floralnomad · 10/10/2020 12:03

I’d go for something lightweight and thermal , there is an online store called the subzero company that do some good ones . I have Reynauds and unless it’s particularly bad find woolly or thermal light gloves are fine .I find tick gloves too awkward to do anything in them .

I have Reynaud's (right now as it happens from standing outside to talk to my mum without a coat on!)

When I last read up about it I concluded that it was more important to keep my core body temperature up than what I wore on my hands, I've never found any gloves to work particularly well.

I also have Raynaud’s and find the same. Wearing decent thermal under layers makes far more difference for me than what I’m wearing (or not) on my hands

Fingerless gloves! I have reynauds and they are fab - just as warm as gloves with fingers and you can do stuff. Only downside is looking like a tramp.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 10/10/2020 12:15

I spent £30 ish in Decathlon and got a three layer set. Silk liners, warms gloves next with fingers and waterproof mittens that go over the top.

They are brilliant. Even at -20 on an incredibly cold ski holiday I didn't get the numb fingers I always used to.

0ellenbrody0 · 10/10/2020 12:18

^ me too. Keep that core warm. I have also had some success with wrist warmers. I have seen fancy (expensive) cashmere ones recommended but I bought some from Ebay for about £4 with thumb holes. If you keep the pulse point on your wrist warm then your fingers are less likely to ‘go’.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 10/10/2020 12:18

Sorry - realised they are definitely not great for doing stuff. But they are great as outdoor winter gloves.

lljkk · 10/10/2020 12:19

People with Reynaud's seem to have individual triggers, so think about what makes his hands lose circulation. Could be different from others.

Angel2702 · 10/10/2020 12:29

I have been looking for heated gloves as nothing works for me. Even 16 degrees out not needing a coat I’ll lose feeling in my fingers.

FLOrenze · 10/10/2020 12:35

I got mine from the Reynauds society. I use them on their own indoors but as liners for outside. Outside I only wear wool gloves over them as the stiffer, weatherproof ones hurt my hands.

RedskyAtnight · 10/10/2020 12:54

Two pairs of gloves. Probably fingerless or very thin gloves and then a thicker glove on top. I get my outer gloves from outdoor shops. Like others on this thread, no gloves are really effective in stopping my fingers from going numb.

Rae36 · 10/10/2020 21:13

I've got cashmere wrist warmers from Turtle Doves. I wear them constantly from autumn. I really think they make a difference. But my mum doesn't think they help her at all. She wears silk gloves under gloves

MyNameForToday1980 · 10/10/2020 21:40

I've got the same fingerless gloves (qns wrist warmers) as @Earthworms and @Rae36 they make a massive difference.

I also wear leg warmers for the same reason (though I also love leg warmers).

lljkk · 11/10/2020 11:20

With the turtle doves (gloves or just wrist warmers) do they ride up, get squished forwards I mean, by the other layers you're wearing (I assume that like me you're also wearing at least one thin long sleeve top & something like a hoody/jacket (or 2) on top of that. I am finding the riding up problem annoying with lycra sleeves, unless the sleeves are very tight ones & I don't find that so comfy either.

not sure if riding up (getting pushed forward) is a problem with all such products.

Does anyone remember in the early 90s the long sleeve tops with a 'thumb hook' in them to keep them pushed forward, always covering the forearm? I wish I could easily buy those again.

This is quite common in running base layer tops, I got this one from M&S (though from eBay) https://www.marksandspencer.com/merinotec-base-layer-long-sleeve-top/p/clp60371751?extid=psps-bplaagglwwwch--UK---&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2or8BRCNARIsACCppyY5beV3rsf2ZQnSaKUbrytyqOovBPkThwlY3qdoB9E4hnxQZVUnVQoaAnVkEALwwcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

lljkk · 11/10/2020 16:07

Ooh, thanks, good idea. I found one on Sports direct for £15 (delivered). Problem is I'm not sure I like wearing lycra all day, and I don't usually spend > £5 for a top (don't otherwise need a top right now either) but will deffo ponder.

Rae36 · 11/10/2020 21:24

I don't find the wrist warmers slide up. I usually wear a thin long sleeves bottom layer and tuck that under the wrist warmers so they stay in place. Sometimes if I also have a cardigan and a jacket they get a bit lost but not usually

Redannie118 · 12/10/2020 19:34

Silver gloves and socks. Worn alone or together with mittens.

BenoneBeauty · 12/10/2020 19:47

I have Reynauds and unfortunately gloves don't work for me. Much more important to keep my core warm and wearing a hat also helps!

avidteadrinker · 12/10/2020 19:55

I have Reynauds and found that a pair of sheep wool gloves from Sainsbury’s which my FIL bought for me for Xmas were the most effective!
