Anyone use a waterpik?

I am trying to improve the state of my gums and wonder if a waterpik would help. I have an electric toothbrush and use tepe brushes and am thinking of adding a waterpik.
Has this helped anyone else?

AuntieMarys · 10/10/2020 10:27

Yes! Mine's a Philips water flosser and it's made a huge difference to my gums.

Lovethecrown · 10/10/2020 12:18

@AuntieMarys that's good to hear. How often do you use it?

How does a water pick compare to flossing? Am interested...

cactuscushion · 10/10/2020 15:41

I use mine daily! It's a rechargeable one and the battery lasts months. It was cheap on amazon- around £20. My mouth only feels half clean without it!

SpringFan · 10/10/2020 15:50

I had 2 Waterpik- the rechargeable versions, both of them went back as the battery failed in about 4 months, despite following the instructions.
I complained directly to Waterpik and got some guff back and a suggestion that I bought a different, more expensive, model.
I ended up with a Lidl own brand one which isn't quite as powerful but has worked for 18 months and doesn't show any sign of failing.
I notice when don't use it , so I guess it must work. I make a lot of plaque and am really noticing my overdue hygeinist appointment

I’ve got one and use it occasionally, floss occasionally, usually use TEPE brushes. Depends what I’ve been eating really.

Dentist tip: if you find a jet of cold water is hitting a sensitive spot, use tepid water instead.

Fifthtimelucky · 10/10/2020 16:17

We have one and I like it, though confess I don't use it every day.

I have never liked flossing, as some of my teeth are very close together and it's sometimes hard to get the floss through.

Expect a bit of bleeding when you first start using it!

MaraScottie · 10/10/2020 16:19

I am curious about these! Does it just shoot a jet of water at your gums? Where does the water come from? Does it hurt? Does it splash everywhere?

AuntieMarys · 10/10/2020 16:21

I use it every day

Martamaybe · 10/10/2020 16:25

I use mine everyday . My teeth are close together and other flossing methods are difficult . Definitely one of my ‘ couldn’t live without’ things

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/10/2020 16:26

I use a similar make, it’s one with a bath that plugs into the mains. I use it every day alongside standard floss and tepe sticks. The reason I started using it was to sort out some chronic gingivitis around my front veneer. Surprisingly i went on a ketogenic diet and my gingivitis cleared up within a week. So now I use it to massage my gums in the hope it will keep them healthy and help fight against recession.

*every other day that should have said.

Shieldingending · 10/10/2020 16:27

I’ve been thinking about getting one ... you lot are persuading me!!

Lovethecrown · 11/10/2020 14:28

Thank you everyone for your comments. I think I will take the plunge!

I’ve also got a Phillips water flosser and it’s really effective .
