Is it worth bothering the doctor?

A few months ago I noticed a mild pain in my upper back just below my shoulder blade when I take a deep breath. It doesn't feel lung related, more like I've slept funny or overdone it at the gym. Normally that sort of pain goes away but this hasn't, in fact it's now kind of extended round the side towards the front. For the same time period I've also had post nasal drip, a build up of mucus in my throat but doesn't feel like it's coming from my chest (this may be totally unrelated!)

It's not that bad that it makes me wince or anything, it's just a niggle but I've never had any kind of muscular ache or pain that lasted this long. I feel a bit silly bothering the doctor about it!

If it’s bothering you and something doesn’t feel right then you should definitely speak to your Dr, they won’t think you’re bothering them. You know your body

Please see the doctor because you should not have to put up with this. The cause needs to be determined.

I usually ask myself if it's bad enough that I would pay to see a doctor if there were no NHS.
If the answer is yes, go.
If it's not so bad that you wouldn't pay, don't go.

No, I wouldn't pay as it's not painful, it's more of a discomfort. It's just that in the back of my mind I'm thinking of a friend who had back pain and it turned out to be cancer (it was secondary though)

The post nasal drip will be causing the mucus in your mouth. Try taking antihistamines for a week, a nasal spray in particular and see if it helps. If it does you either have a problem with seasonal allergies or dust mites. If it doesnt help consider a doctors visit.

For the back pain, try a massage. It sounds muscular and when one muscle is pulled and cant get any relief, it often starts pulling on the one next to it in a sort of chain reaction. The other thing to do is take 600mg (probably 3 pills but double check) or nurofen 3 times a day for a week. It is an anti inflamatory and will help with muscle sprains. You can also try icing and heating packs on the back depending on what feels better to you. Also avoid lifting heavy things and big twisting maneuvers for a week or so.
If it doesnt get better in another two weeks, consider a doctors visit

Thanks @SeaToSki I did try the nasal steroid spray with antihistamines for a couple of weeks and unfortunately it didn't do anything.
