Tooth pain during coronavirus

I’ve chipped my top wisdom tooth, I grind my teeth in my sleep. I can feel it and it’s jagged on the outside. The pain is constant and it wakes me up every hour or so throughout the night. This has been going on for the last 2 months and so I’ve been in a constant cycle of taking ibuprofen/paracetamol for a short relief.

I’m not currently registered to a dentist (last went around 2 years ago). I’m so sick of the pain, I’ve been reading about dentists during the coronavirus and apparently the won’t see you unless your gums or face are swollen, Or you are in extreme pain (mine is moderate but constant)

Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this? I feel like screaming tonight as I’ve realised I’m out of tablets, DP is at work and I’m home alone with sleeping DD so can’t get any. Tonight will be a sleepless night and I’m fed up of waiting for treatment now. I don’t think I can handle this pain day after for much longer

Why dont you register with an nhs one. Or call 111 explain no dentist, cant sleep for pain. You should get referred to a dental hub where they will probably pull the tooth.

I'm just over an infection in my tooth. They had to pull it but the offer was there to get root canal. Next door has also had root canal done. If you phone the NHS 24 dental they'll sort you out.

Are you near a dental hospital?

MasksGlovesSoapScrubs · 08/10/2020 23:30

Are you still registered though? I'm a dental nurse and we have patients that haven't been for 2 years that are still on our books.
We see anyone in pain doesn't matter how mild or moderate. You're in pain and what you describe you need to be seen ASAP.

You can phone any NHS walk in dental surgeries you don't need to be a patient but if you have the money maybe go private.

NHS 111 will direct you to the closest walk in centre it isn't just medical it's also dental for 111 Smile.

Mild or moderate? Jeez I'm tired I meant mild or severe

I’ve got an appointment tomorrow - I’ve got a heavily filled tooth, which was refilled only last year. I don’t grind, but I do clinch my teeth in my sleep and now that tooth is extremely sensitive and I can’t eat on it. It’s painful with hot and cold food, but definitely not constant pain. I was triaged by the dentist last week and she said she would try to patch it up but if not she would take it out.

I’ve had a risk assessment done by phone today. I’m an NHS patient.
