Do many people take vitamin d3 supplements in autumn and winter?

Yes I take 4000iu a day. Lots has been said about this on MSM with relation to COVID. I also take vitamin K2 to aid the vit D.

custardbear · 07/10/2020 05:14

I take a multivitamin plus extra D vitamin too, plus zinc

DianaT1969 · 07/10/2020 06:08

All year round. A spray combined with K2. I took a loading dose for 8 weeks after finding out my level was low. I found out through a private blood test on Thriva in May (surprised that it was low as I had been deliberately exposing my limbs to sunshine in the middle of the day, plus I eat oily fish and eggs regularly anyway). If you are overweight you may need to take more than the average dose on the bottle - but get medical advice on that.
Google the many studies around the world on the benefits of vitamin D during this pandemic. No studies done in the UK though. A huge oversight.

My Vit D was tested a few years ago and was crazily low. It took months and months of supplements to get it up to a good level.

I'll continue to take vitamin D for life.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 07:51

Its supposed to help against respiratory illnesses and may in some ways help with Covid. In Scotland we're advised to take it just about all year. I take 25ug (1000IU) and the kids take 10ug (400IU) which is the recommended amount for everyone.
(Maximum recommended for adults is 100ug which is 4000IU)

Morgan12 · 07/10/2020 07:56

I've been on the look out for vit D and can't seem to find it anywhere? Where do you all get yours?

My kids take a multi vitamin each morning but I'd like to add this in also.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 07:57

I got mine from amazon

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 07:59

The kids use a spray which is the brand 'Better You'

chocolatespiders · 07/10/2020 08:01

@morgan12 have you got a Holland and Barrett near you? They have a large selection.

Comefromaway · 07/10/2020 08:02

We are all taking 2000iu every day along with K2 except for ds who is only 16 so is taking 1000iu. we get them from Holland & Barratt.

Defaultuser · 07/10/2020 08:28

The NHS in Scotland have just started advising it. Maybe that's just up here though!

MrsPhyllisTyne · 07/10/2020 08:30

@dementedpixie, I think I use the same one. I got this one from Holland and Barrett.

Janevaljane · 07/10/2020 08:36

I've posted this before, but I take 2000 all year round and have for over 10 years.

I had what I presume was Covid in March although could have been bad flu (complete loss of smell, cough, aches, moving to breathlessness and looking grey). Despite the vit d I was very poorly for 2 weeks, BUT I recovered very well and quickly with no obvious side effects apart from a ringing in one of my ears. No long term fatigue.

FlatandFabulous · 07/10/2020 09:17

I take daily Vitamin D despite living in Aus. Interestingly people's Vit D levels are often low here as everyone is paranoid about staying out of the sun because of skin cancer.

Babdoc · 07/10/2020 09:23

There was an article in the Times just this morning, recommending it, OP!
Anyone living north of London certainly should take a supplement from October to March, as the sunlight is insufficient to maintain levels naturally via the skin.
Vit D is essential for the immune system as well as healthy bones, so may well be of benefit in fighting viruses such as Covid.

WickedEmoji · 07/10/2020 09:27

Yep. I get mine at Superdrug.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/10/2020 09:28

Yes 2000iu plus K2
