I noticed a small, bony (to me, anyway) lump inside my mandible last week. It’s adjacent to my premolars on the inside of my gum. It’s on the left side.
Now, I studied SLT, so I remember that we touched on some common oral growths, and it does seem to fit the criteria for a mandibular torus - however, I also remember being told that they’re usually bilateral, and this is unilateral. There are no other symptoms and I’m not even sure it’s new - I remember having a vague thought months ago about my mouth being a funny shape - but I’m an anxious soul and my brain has latched onto it.
It’s not very big - only about half a fingertip wide, and it follows my jaw line, so not a very lumpy lump. I’ve phoned around a few local dentists, but they’ve all said that they can’t see new patients until the new year, because of COVID (I am currently not registered with a dentist). I’ve tried to explain a little, but since it doesn’t seem like an emergency, they aren’t allowed to see me.
My brain is going a little crazy about it being cancer or something else sinister. The rational side of my brain says that it could have been there for ages without me noticing, so there’s probably no need to panic.
Can anyone offer reassurance or advice?
Thanks!
