Neuroblastoma- an agressive childhood cancer

Hi all,

Five years ago my beautiful son, Jack Ford, lost his battle against a relentless childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma. Diagnosed at just 3, the tumour inside him was the size of a football and every bone in his tiny body was riddled with cancer. He was given a 10% chance of survival and defied all odds to live another 2 precious years, enduring immense pain, chemotherapy and all the horrible things that come with it. Yet through it all, he smiled, as he will be smiling today, looking down on my brother and his team of work colleagues from Barclaycard, who are walking in his memory to raise much needed funds for research into this aggressive childhood cancer.

Please, please take a look at Jack's website and the links page on my childminding website to see how this disease is destroying lives and find it in your hearts to help towards the funding needed for research.

You can see how much my brother has raised so far and donate here:

And this is Jack's website:

Thank you for taking the time to read this and donating if you can.

Too many children are dying from Neuroblastoma.

hippipotOFBLOODami · 12/10/2007 07:19

I have just read Jack's story and cried buckets. What a beautiful boy.

You have 3 beautiful children, and are so strong!

uberalice · 12/10/2007 08:02

I'm in tears too. What lovely children you have.

Pinkchampagne · 12/10/2007 08:16

Oh what a beautiful boy Jack was, just like his brother & sister. So sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking.

Dear Lena
I am so sorry for you loss ... Losing a child must be the most awful thing in the world ...

I have just donated to your cause ... it was my uncle's funeral today ... he was very old and had had a 6 month battle with cancer. My aunt told me that a donation to a children's cancer charity would have made him happy ...
I was in the process of trying to find something suitable when I found this thread so thank you.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and for visiting Jack's site.

Sadly, too many children are being lost to this aggressive childhood cancer, I attended the Neuroblastoma Society AGM earlier this year and met a lovely young lady there, her son is being treated at the same hospital that Jack was treated. We have kept in touch and I have met her little soldier, it was heartbraking last Wednesday night when she phoned me to say her son had been given 2 weeks to live. She wanted to know how it was at the end, thankfully, for Jack, it was peaceful and I could tell her that.

There has been many children lost to this disease across the world in the last few months alone, I belong to a group of 'Angel mums' and more join our list every week. There has been two recently in the UK, many in the U.S and a few across Europe. It is heartbreaking, that after 5 years since Jack lost his fight, there is still little improvement in treatment and more funding needs to be raised to open up more opportunities to find a way to beat this demon.

A big THANK YOU to those who have donated.

ghosty, sorry for your loss, sending love and prayers, thanks for bumping.

Thank you all once again for taking the time to visit Jack's site.

I am in tears this morning...

A friend I made at the Neuroblastoma AGM earlier this year has emailed me this thismorning to let me know that her beautiful DS gained his angel wings yesterday afternoon.

Yet another life claimed by Neuroblastoma, god I hate this disease.
