Vitamin B

Hi,

Does anyone else suffer with low vitamin B, but not low enough to be eligible for NHS treatment? What supplements do you take? Really disappointed to see that my levels are steadily decreasing with the tablets I have been currently using

Which B vitamin?, is it B12?.

Frappuccinofan · 02/10/2020 16:13

Here’s the NICE Guidelines for you. cks.nice.org.uk/topics/anaemia-b12-folate-deficiency/

If it’s continuing to decline you have to hit the threshold for treatment eventually. Do you have any idea what could be causing it?.

Using a spray rather than tablets might get better absorption. Also, if you take metformin, lansoprazole (or other drugs in the same group) or vitamin c tablets these can interfere with it being absorbed, so better to take it at a different time of day to any of them.

@Fluffycloudland77 thanks. GP thinks it’s just part and parcel after years of veganism; I can’t sustain a high level via diet alone. It will officially drop to a deficient level if it carries on with the current trajectory, but I’d rather get my levels up now so I can stop feeling lethargic. Have just currently been taking a multivitamin.

@Montybojangles thanks for the tip about vitamin c, I haven’t been taking tablets but I do take it at the same time as iron supplements (with orange juice) so perhaps that could be interfering

Oh I see, you’re vegan. Well I’d buy a solgar b12 supplement then. They might even do a multivitamin for vegans.

You can’t store b vitamins so you need a steady supply.
