head tilting

My dd has started to tilt her head to one side when she is eating her solids, as if she is protecting her ear. Is this teething or has she got earache? She sounds like she has a blocked nose from time to time but only when she's excited, and she isn't crying.

Sorry, should also add many thanks for any help!

Hi Ionesmum, Maybe she does have an earache or infection. It seems like a typical reaction to tilt the head sideways if the ear is in any kind of pain.

Also if it is an earache or infection maybe its the chewing that is making the achey sensation more irritating.

Ionesmum - did the head tilting start at the same time as her waking more frequently during the night? Sometimes babies have low grade ear infections that do not make them particularly ill but cause them pain when eating or lying down. If you think the two things are linked I would get her ears checked by the GP if things haven't resolved by Monday. If she became unwell I would have her seen today. HTH.

Thanks for all the help. mears, I think you might be right, tthe two do coincide but I thought if she'd got earache she'd be crying, that's why I thought it was more likely her teeth. She didn't tilt her head during breakfast but that was just sloppy porridge. Robin, dd is only 7 mo so chocolate is a pleasure yet to be discovered! Thanks to threeangels too.

ionesmum

dd has had minor ear infections twice. First time I had n't a clue and was really embarrassed when dr told me. Second time it was combined with UTI (resistance lowered as she had just had a virus)so I really did know about it !! Have your dd checked out. It might just be a bit of congestion especially if she has a bit of a cold too but you never can be sure when they are so young.

Thanks, LizS. We are going to the doctor tomorrow, our g.p. is brilliant at seeing dd at short notice. I'm mortified to think that I've left her with a possible ear infection - I noticed this around Wednesday - but I really did think it was her teeth.

Everything OK now Ionesmum?

Hi, mears, thank you so much for asking. The doctor had a look at dd and said that her ears are fine, and I've noticed that she's not tilting her head so much. However, she is now waking every two hour's at night which is driving me crazy! It could be teething I suppose but she doesn't cry at all, in fact she has a jolly good time rolling round her cot and laughing!
