Clusters of bruises on legs all the time recently (pics attached)

Recently (probably the past few months) I've been getting a lot of cluster of bruises on my legs for no reason. I do suffer with eczema now and then and sometimes get itchy legs but surely itching my leg none aggressively wouldn't result in this? That's literally all I can think of. haven't injured myself of done anything that would warrant this. The photos attached are all separate occasions. There's been more though that I don't have photos of. I haven't seen the gp as not sure if it's anything to worry about. Any similar experiences or advice?

When I scratch myself hard I always get a bruise. I've bruised easily for years and the surgeon had to do external stitches recently when I had surgery as my skin was "thin". I'm used to it now, and think it may be related to my inhaler use since little, but always worth getting checked out.

Now that you mention your skin being thin, I have often used steroid cream for my eczema so thinking it could be linked to that. I am also a vegetarian with quite a poor diet so it could all be linked, it's just I've suffered with eczema and been a vegetarian for years and the bruising has only recently started happening.

My skin used to bruise easily (albeit nowhere near the same extent as you) when I had low vitamin d and low ferritin levels

Frappuccinofan · 28/09/2020 17:32

I’m vegetarian too and it can be difficult to keep your vitamin levels topped up through diet alone

SerenityNowwwww · 28/09/2020 17:34

That happened to me once when I scratched my leg and just came up in huge bruised all over where I’d been scratching. It was nothing serious but I gave the pharmacist a scare (he announced that it could be septicaemia and told me to see my go).

Can you send the photos to your gp?

relievedlady · 28/09/2020 17:47

Happens to me too op.

I only have to scratch and the next day I look just like you. My mum is the same.

Nevertheless I think you should see your GP urgently so they can do blood tests to rule out sinister reasons for easy bruising.

cakeandchampagne · 28/09/2020 17:50

Sending the pictures to your doctor is a good idea. At least call your doctor and ask.

Oldmum55 · 28/09/2020 17:53

It’s quite usual in older people so I guess it depends on how old you are. It’s usually just thin fragile skin but it could be linked to lack of certain vitamins and minerals. Mention it to your GP.

If you are using steroid cream for eczema and have been for a while there is a potential for conditions like Cushing’s Syndrome. Other symptoms would be weight gain, moon face, lots more - google to check. If you have these symptoms please go to docs and mention it.

It is rare but I have it from years of using strong steroids for eczema. I used to bruise horribly just from scratching!

Thank you for your replies, I will give my gp a call this week. @oldmum55 I am 26

You need to speak to GP and show them the photos

Kakiweewee · 28/09/2020 22:23

Yes, I'd say a GP visit to rule out anything causing it. I bruise in my sleep because I'm a sleepwalker and I'll do things like grab myself so hard I leave finger prints around my arm, or on my thigh. It's quite disconcerting waking up with bruises and not knowing how they got there.
