Hi Melsy How is dd today? Most authorities say it is not contagious after taking the antibiotics for 5 days; but adults can get it too. (As I mentioned on the other thread, it can come out as just a sore throat in some people (still needing the same treatment) while in those susceptible it causes scarlet fever.

Ds2 had scarlet fever. No one else in house (4 of us) got it, no one else who had been in contact with him before we knew he had it got it. So I am presuming it isn't that contagious.

thank you for asking tiggi, she seems more tired today and had a very slight temp raise yesterday, but other than that she seems bright.

Shes had her antibiotics since saturday, so nearly 5 days. I read on some sites that they are no longer spreading infection after 24hrs of antibiotics, but I dont know about that? The cleaner wasnt happy at 1st , but I assured her that she had taken her meds & the 24hr thing. If she was in the midst of it like the weekend I wold have told them not to come , but shes at the tail end now surely?

My ds1 had it when he was little - no-one else got it. Is it still a notifiable disease?

The bug that causes it is contagious but not everyone is susceptible to getting actual scarlet fever. Some people may just get a mild sore throat.

Melsy - don't be alarmed when the skin starts to peel. It's a natural progression of the disease and isn't sore.

Yes Melsy-there seems to be conflicting advice between 24 hours and 5 days depending on where you look. She should fine to see people now, if she has been on abs since Saturday anyway.

mu mum had it about 10 years ago - but no one caught it off her.
