My Daughter's Hair

Hi everyone
i wasnt really sure where to put this post, or even if im just being silly and it's not worth posting it at all.
My daughter is 4 years old(august birthday) and has just started full time school.
I dont know if i am really worried yet or just a bit miffed, but her hair is still really quite short, all the other girls in her class , even a few that are younger have really long hair that they can wear in plaits, pony tails etc, and this isnt an exageration, my daughters is short and still quite fine, though it has thickened up a little but it just doesnt seem to grow in length. I can just about scrape it into 2 small bunches to keep it tidy for school but theres no way i could plait it or get it into one ponytail.
Does anyone else have a daughter of this age who's hair is short? Am i worrying over nothing? Its just that she comes home from school and asks me why her hair isnt like such and such.
Thanks in advance for any replies
Kerry

That does sound very short. My DD was 3 in may so she is about 8 months younger than your daughter and she has fine, slow growing hair but I have been able to get it into a pony tail for some time, with the aid of clips etc but could not plait. Hers is just heading towards shoulder length and lots of her friends have much longer, heavier hair. If you look at my profile there is a picture of her with her hair in the minutest bun you ever saw.

I have just added a picture of DD from August to my public profile so that you can have a look.

I had hair like that when I was her age. My mum kept it cut really short to help thicken it. I begged her to let me grow it especially after Santa thought i was a boy at the grotto.

It did thcken up though and by the age of six i had a little bob and as an adult it is still fine but there is a lot of it.

Comfort her and tell her how lovely she is, I am sure it will grow but remember how I used to feel.

Have you been cutting it shannon. DD has only ever had the very ends trimmed. And no fringe cut it because I thought it would be messy with her hair being wavy (another thing that makes it look shorter IMO).

Is she blonde, Shannon? I don't know why this is, but I've noticed that blonde children often have very fine, slow growing hair.

I know a little girl like this. When she started school she had very sparse, toddler, hair. She was blonde. Her dark-haired brother had a more vigorous mop.

She is now about 9 and has perfectly normal, lovely hair.

My DD is blonde.

My sister had really, really short blonde curly hair until she started school - too short to be tied back at all. It started growing properly when she was about 5 or so, and she actually had her hair waist length until she escaped to Uni and could get it cut (Mum went ballistic, )

jennifersofia · 10/10/2007 14:46

My dd is 6.5 and her hair never really goes beyond chin length. Very fine, dry-ish and thin. Just doesn't seem to grow. It worries me a bit, and she is desperate for long hair. I have just given up and keep it as a short bob, because that is what looks thickest/healthiest. She is blonde, btw.
I think it really is the nature of her hair.
If it is any consolation, my younger has thick brown hair that grows well, and she is always the one who picks up nits. Her blonde sister never gets them, despite the two of them being thick as thieves.

hi folks
thanks for all your replies, interesting to see it seems to be more common in fair haired children, i guess my daughter would apply to this group, though her hair is red/ginger
