Will NHS follow up private care? (gallbladder)

I'm considering having my gallbladder removed privately as the wait is too long on NHS. Does anyone know if the NHS will deal with me afterwards should any problems arise? Or will I have to pay further costs for the private hospital?

There are potential short term issues like infection that I would imagine the private hospital should treat a part of the package, but I'm thinking more of the longer term risks such as chronic diarrhoea, stones left behind in ducts, sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, bile acid reflux etc. Presumably if I was unlucky enough to have these issues they would occur quite some time after recovery from the op, so it should be dealt with by the NHS right?

Well I had mine removed on the NHS and have nothing but bother since and my GP doesn't care.

I wouldn't expect it to be any different for private.

It's still better without the damned thing though. There is imodium, omeprazole and a watch your fat intake diet.

Firstly I would double check with the private hospital will cover re immediate complications.

However, once you have healed, theoretically the NHS should be able to support future issues. But I think it’s a bit of a lottery as to how supportive your GP/local NHS trust is.

Hello, did you get it done privately or know how long the wait is?
