i got hit many years ago on my nose, had a operation (shaved cartlidges) about 8 yrs later as had all the sinus signs...(tension tightness headaches around head and back of neck, throbbing forehead, blocked up nose due to one cold after the other, tender nose) but the tightness at the back of the neck went but still got the headaches, tender forehead and now mucus at the back of my throat since the op.

I had dia-morphine when i was in labour and threw up violently. After i blew my nose and a handful of dark green phelmgh came out and all the signs went.............till i caught a cold 2 weeks later!!! that was 3 yrs ago!!!

my ENT wont give me a nose flush as he cannot see anything else that they can do.

Even had a allergy test to test ALL allergies if i had it...but nothing!!

my signs are

  1. mucus/phlemgh at back of my throat
  2. if im talking, (to people or reading a book, i find it difficult to breathe as i cant breathe through nose and talk at the same time cos of my nose is totally blocked up
  3. sinus headaches
  4. if im walking, im out of breath cos i find it hard to breathe in through mouth cos of the mucus
  5. Feeling very tired and moody - not getting a good night sleep
  6. Signs of colds but i dont have a cold atm but feels like it needs to come out!!
  7. Runny nose
  8. Cant shout or speak loudly cos my voice disappear!!

HELP?......or do i need to go back to docs again!!!!

im so fed up!! cos i was watching "STREET DOCTOR" tonight and ive got all the signs of being Asthmatic....but ive had the tests for allergies and nothing came up!!

my son has problem with breathing through his nose, and cannot breathe through his nose with his mouth closed.

sometimes he also has excess saliva because he breaths through his mouth instead of his nose.

the doctor has given him a nasal spray which has made a little bit of difference, but seems to be getting worse again now the weather has cooled slightly.

Screaminglips · 08/10/2007 20:48

ive already been for an 2nd opinion...

Definitely go back for a 2nd opinion ,you shouldn't have to put up with feeling like that.

This may sound a bit naff, but on 'Oprah' the other day, people with exactly your symptoms were raving about a 'nose bidet' (Honest)
Its a little jug which you pour saline solution into one nostril, it goes thru all your tubes and washes out all your muck.

The doc on their swore blind it was great, as did everyone else. Have you heard of this??

LaylaandSethsmum · 08/10/2007 21:00

Asthma doesn't always mean you have an allergy to something although there is usually a trigger which amkes your symptoms worse.
Health peeps tend to ask questions like 'are you waking at night with breathlessness/coughing?' , 'Does your condition restrict your normal activities?' ' do you have to stop doing certain things such as exercise due to being out of breath?'

The Dr/Nurse should really then do revesibility testing which is a peak flow reading then give you a dose of salbutamol then retest your peak flow after 30 mins, they should also ask you to keep a 2 week symptom diary. These things taken together should enable to diagnose asthma in you if thats waht is wrong.

dp said "go to the docs and ask for dia-morphine!!"...i wish!!!!

Maybe its chronic sinusitis? Your symptoms don't really point to asthma, more that you have blocked nasal passages or another possibility is gastric reflux.
This may sound odd but not everyone feels this as heartburn, it can be minute amounts of stomach acid constantly being refluxed which causes irritation and inflammation which can lead to excess mucus , hoarseness as the vocal chords are irritated and an irritating couch or constant need to clear your throat.

Screaminglips · 08/10/2007 21:23

is it best to go and buy some saline drops and go from there.

also i do find the nasal strips are fab!!! but only can wear one strip at a time for 12 hours..i feel silly going out with it on! but i have it on when im in bed to get a good night sleep!

Screaminglips · 08/10/2007 21:29

Do u think the docs at hospital will give me dia-morphine when i have my next baby??.. as it made me threw up violently and cleared my nose that had been blocked for 10 yrs.

ill be begging them!!!!

I think Mrs Merton was referring to what I have heard called a neti pot. These are used in Indian medicine, (I think), and I have seen them used on The Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses on Sky TV, most people seemed to like it once they got used to it. It is basically washing your nasal passages out with a warm saline solution yourself. Definitely think it might be worth you trying it.on page 6

I have had sinus problems on and off for several years, have a nasal polyp, chronic rhinitis and can hardly breathe through my nose, (also suffer from scummy teeth which is the most embarrassing by far .)

Screaminglips · 09/10/2007 18:47

oooh ill have a go with that. many thanks everyone for your help!

  • I know you have said you have already been for a second opinion but thought you might find the linked acticle interesting. I also wondered if it would be worth you going private for an initial consultation, (assuming you were NHS originally), I do wonder how their financial restraints affect decisions on whether to carry out operations or not . I won't admit to how I found the article as I know I could be banned from mumsnet Functional endoscopic sinus surgery
