When pluck out with tweezers i get sort of blackish looking root bits under skin after a couple of days whic look like stubble, but will scrape off. Please help - am fed up of looking like tranny!!!

Have you investigated the underlying problem? Polycystic Ovaries can cause hairy faces, or an homonal imbalance. You shouldn't have to put up with doing all that hair removing all the time. See your GP

Have got pcos which is why my dd was such a miracle/shock!! Think may try to see gp. Is laser or similar worth it?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1375/402179?rnd=1191872219392 I asked this earlier... or as the case may be.

My friend had laser under her arms, and bikini line, expensive, but hardly any hair has come back and what has grown is really fine and just falls out. Hope you have some luck at GP

Alex
If you have PCOS (I do), go to the GP and ask for Vaniqa.

It's a cream which makes the hair grow back finer and slower and eventually it should stop (although I'm not quite there yet!), takes about 4-6 weeks.

Good luck!

Hi alexw

You have my sympathies. Have been doing the same as you - hair removal/bleaching - since teens. I've been checked out for PCOS, and don't have it, so the dr has never got the bottom of my hirsutism

However, I manage it by shaving my jaw line (the worst area) every couple of days. I'm told most people don't notice it.

I have also been having IPL (intense pulsed light treatment) for 18 months, and although I'm an ideal 'case' - pale skin and dark hair - it has done very little tbh. The clinic that does it reckons I have some weird underlying hormonal disorder as, at 29, I'm one of their youngest patients and I should be responding. They are going to try IPL and laser at the same time next week, to see if that has a better effect.

From what I understand of PCOS, it can be well managed with a low glycaemic load diet - which may reduce symptoms?

Dianette worked for me years ago, in massively reducing the facial hair; I just didn't want to be on the Pill longterm. Might be worth a go? I also read recently (not in a tabloid!) that a study is being undertaken to establish if there is a link between spearmint and a reduction in hirsutism. Apparently, in a culture somewhere where the women would be expected to be hairy, they are not, and they drink a lot of spearmint tea. Haven't given this a go, but am intrigued.

sillysilly's cream suggestion sounds brilliant! Will ask my dr for that, too.

Good luck. I do feel for you.
