Flu shot price difference (Boots VS Private GP) - Why?

I have looked into flu shot options and there is a substantial price difference between Boots(14 GBP) and Private GP (45 GBP). The flu shot from the private is four strain and mercury free and I am wondering whether the one from boots is three strain and contains mercury..
Would anyone know why there are so much difference on price between them?

because you pay for different level of medical professional.
privately you would have a dr or nurse consultation in addition to the vaccine.

The type of jab is the same wherever you source it, as the one you are offered depends on your age (the over 65s get a different adjuvant)

The difference in cost is because of economies of scale and because places like Boots are offering it in premises which they are paying for anyhow for their retail business. Private GPS are covering their whole cost, including appointment time.

At a private GP you’re also paying for the service, they tend to have a bit more time for private patients.

Private GPs also see a wider range of patients so there may be an insurance issue - and as others have said, you will get a consultation as well. If I want to get a flu shot for teenage DC I have to go to private GP as Boots won't see under 16s (or under 18s), and will probably not see you with a pre-existing condition.

Yes, you're paying for the private GP/nurses time as well as the actual injection.

AnnaMagnani · 15/09/2020 13:54

Because you don't really need a GP to give you a flu injection.

I had mine done at Boots last year - for free as I'm in a risk group. It was lovely, as the pharmacist obvs didn't do 20 zillion injections all day she took massive care over it and it didn't hurt at all.

No disrespect to my practice nurse but flu clinic there is quick check, stick arm out, done, next! She has so many to do each day.

Boots do do under 18s, the minimum age is 12 this year.

Chevron123 · 15/09/2020 14:12

halcyondays. Thanks. That makes sense - I wasn't sure what the age cut off was but I know that up until now, most primary kids get it free at school but it has been hard to access cheaply for secondary.
