Impacted ear wax

Any tips on home remedies for extremely painful impacted earwax? I’ve woken up in agony, paracetamol is just touching it but I’m still in pain and being a useless mother today. Is there anything I can do

I’m booked in for microsuction at the earliest available opportunity, but it’s still a week away! I’ve used oil daily but that has led to a mildly blocked ear becoming completely blocked and ridiculously painful. Obv using OTC painkillers, but any other tips would be very gratefully received!!

Would a bit of mild heat help? Like a hot water bottle?

CoffeeandKitKat · 11/09/2020 17:24

I've used this and found it very effective.

Thanks both. I’ve tried all the suggestions so far, and the only thing working is paracetamol so I guess I will stick with that until my appt 😩😩 but thank you for the help!

Lukewarm salted water. Lie on your side and have it poured into your ear. Wait a few minutes and you should hopefully hear a pop.

Oriflamme · 12/09/2020 11:50

@DoTheNextRightThing I will try this as soon as DH is out of his meeting! Thanks!

Don't put anything else in your ears!!!!

Leave it alone until you get the microsuction. It's like a miracle honestly. You will feel so much better.

ouch321 · 12/09/2020 11:56

Never heard of micro suction for ears before.

I've had badly blocked ears - 3 times - to the extent I was struggling to hear people speak.

I did oil in the ear and had ears irritated. I quite like having my ears irritated strange and it sounds, makes you feel nice and clean.

@YesIDoLoveCrisps hahaha that was fantastic, thanks! Something to dream about while I wait for my appt…

The pain has lessened now so fingers crossed I will make it to Thursday with just the annoying blockage to contend with!

Have you tried the ear candles? I've not had to use them but a friend of mine has used them successfully.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/09/2020 23:51

Please don't use ear candles. They are dangerous and they don't work.

Anordinarymum · 12/09/2020 23:53

I have heard they do not work.

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2020 23:53

Ear candles are the work of the devil.

Glad the pain has lessened-ear pain is awful.

TheClitterati · 12/09/2020 23:54

Although I've just googled them and there's lots of negative stuff written about them.

Hope you feel better soon op.

This is a nice summary of why ear candles are so bad. They’re not just an innocuous waste of money. They’re dangerous.

LilOldMe · 13/09/2020 00:28

These things are amazing. It'll clear it all out. I've used it loads of times and cleared the blockage within about 2 minutes.
