Have you got any anti-histamine tablets or cream? Sounds like an allergic reaction, maybe to something you have eaten?

Twiglett · 18/10/2004 07:55

anti-histamine ..

on a monday morning nobody's gonna notice anyway

Titania · 18/10/2004 07:56

um....I've got some benadryl tablets? they are for DH when he gets heat rash. Will they do the trick? I haven't eaten anything different I don't think.....

OP posts:
Titania · 18/10/2004 07:59

and are they ok to take with ADs?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 18/10/2004 08:00

Benadryl is an anti-histamine .. but is it prescription only .. if it is then you shouldn't take it

and you can't take it if breast-feeding

also be careful if you have asthma, stomach ulcer, hypertension or heart problems

I personally wouldn't take a prescription drug

have you got any piriton?

Twiglett · 18/10/2004 08:02

... and it can cause drowsiness or diziness so shouldn't drive after

WigWamBam · 18/10/2004 08:07

Benadryl is not a prescription only medicine, you can buy it over the counter and there's no warning on the packet about anti-depressants, read the information sheet of your anti depressant to check first though. Hope you feel better soon.

Twiglett · 18/10/2004 08:11

found this

"some meds can have some bad affects while taking Benadryl especially anti-depressants"

and other sites say there are interactions between 'tricyclic' ADs

I'd say Don't TBH

Titania · 18/10/2004 08:11

where did you find that?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 18/10/2004 08:13

tricyclic stuff here .. look at bottom re: interactions

quote here

just do a search on "benadryl AND anti-depressants" in google

HTH

Titania · 18/10/2004 08:21

Which ad is it, Titania?

Titania · 18/10/2004 10:03

cipralex

OP posts:
Titania · 18/10/2004 10:05

been on it for 10 days now

MummyToSteven · 18/10/2004 10:06

cipralex isn't a tricyclic. but the pharmacist would be the best person to ask about what to take. when I have asked the doctor about rashes and ADs I was told that it would usually be a rash on the chest/arms if it was an allergic rash, not the face - but could be worth checking with the pharmacist as well. i've taken piriton and ADs plenty of times without any problems myself - but not exactly the most scientific way of looking at it!!!

WigWamBam · 18/10/2004 10:09

Citalopram isn't a tricyclic, and there's nothing on the leaflet from mine that says you can't take anti-histamines. Can you ring a pharamacist for advice? I'm sure they'll speak to you over the phone.

agy · 18/10/2004 10:22

There is a type of rash which can be a reaction to stress.

JuniperDewdrop · 18/10/2004 12:06

Have you changed your washing liquid/tabs? or softenener. Just wondering if it could be from the pillow?

Titania · 18/10/2004 12:12

no i havent changed anything....or eaten anything i dont usually eat.

OP posts:
JuniperDewdrop · 18/10/2004 12:16

has it gone down any? Maybe it could be your meds then if you just started them? Let's hope it goes soon x

Titania · 18/10/2004 12:20

yeah its gone down a bit....i did take an antihistamine tablet earlier. Started ADs 10 days ago...would have thought they would have done this sooner if it was them?

OP posts:
Flossam · 18/10/2004 12:22

Could well be your AD's as you've not been taking them long. Go and see your Gp and see what they think. Allergies to meds don't always occur on the first time of taking them. The body often has to become sensitised to them first.

clairabelle · 18/10/2004 12:23

Could still be your meds is it a documented side effect?

WigWamBam · 18/10/2004 12:25

It could be an allergic reaction to the citalopram, the leaflet says these are uncommon but include skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, mouth and lips. Are you having any difficulty swallowing or shortness of breath?
